CPD Y Rhyl 1879 has appointed Barry Owen as its new first team manager.
Former Mold Alexandra boss Owen and assistant Liam Groves, leave Alyn Park to take over at the Hops and Barley Community Stadium.
Owen had been having a successful season at Mold, leading the club to the top three of the Cymru North.
He replaces Paul Moore, who left Rhyl earlier this month. Steve Giblin and Zion Hopkins had been in temporary charge of the first team but Owen’s appointment.
Owen brings extensive experience across the North Wales football pyramid, having previously managed Mold, St Asaph City and Llanrwst United.
Rhyl 1879 said: “His appointment follows a thorough selection process, with Owen emerging as a standout candidate thanks to his experience, positive approach and proven ability to build competitive teams.
“His work at Mold Alexandra has been particularly impressive, with the club currently sitting third in the JD Cymru North. He also guided them to the last 16 of the JD Welsh Cup in the 2024/25 season.
“The club believes Owen’s experience at this level, understanding of North Wales football and ambition make him the right person to lead CPD Y Rhyl 1879 into its next chapter.”
Owen and Groves officially begin their roles on Sunday, 1 November, following the Lilywhites’ away fixture against Mold Alexandra on Saturday.
New manager Owen said: “Once Adam and I spoke and met in person, it was clear that the club’s vision and ambition matched my own.
“I’m immensely proud to be given this opportunity to manage one of the biggest clubs in Welsh football and I will do my absolute best to deliver.
“I’d like to place on record my thanks to everyone connected with Mold Alex for their support and for making it a smooth process. I wish them all the best moving forward.”
CPD Y Rhyl 1879 Managing Director Adam Roche added:
“Having reviewed 35 applications and spoken with some highly respected and hugely experienced managers, Barry’s ambition for Rhyl really stood out. His winning mentality immediately caught my attention, but it was his passion, vision and the thought and planning he has already put into taking this club forward that genuinely blew me away.
“I’m absolutely delighted to welcome Barry to Rhyl. I firmly believe we’ve appointed someone who shares our ambition, understands what this club means to the town, its supporters, the wider community and has the drive and determination to help us achieve something special.
“There is so much to be excited about at CPD Y Rhyl 1879, both on and off the pitch, and this appointment is another important step in our journey. I genuinely believe our players, everyone connected with the club, and our fantastic supporters will be excited by what lies ahead. The future is bright, the ambition is real, and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together.”
