Grassroots Not Cash Routes – that’s the message from Clwb Pel Droed Bontnewydd ahead of this weekend’s match.
While player payments in Tier 4 and 5 football in North Wales are believed to now be commonplace, some clubs do not hand out a penny – their players and staff compete for the love of the game alone. Some players still pay to play.
One non-paying club is Bontnewydd, who would appreciate a good crowd at Cae Stanley for their North Wales Coast West League Premier Division clash with Gwalchmai this Saturday.
A CPD Bontnewydd statement said:“A lot of Tier 4 clubs are now paying players silly money to play grassroots football. We are one of many clubs struggling to keep up with them as we do not pay a penny to anyone person connected with our club
“Waunfawr folded a couple of years ago because of this, so did Llanllyfni – we don’t want it happening anywhere else.”
