For the second weekend running Bangor lost out at home to Flint, but on both occasions the Citizens could feel they deserved something from the game.
Bangor had two goals controversially ruled out by the official in Sunday’s league battle and Flint also owed much to the heroics of goalkeeper Becky Bott, one save from a Holly Owen Roberts free kick especially standing out.
However, it is goals that count and for the Silkwomen their clinicalness in front of goal earned them a fourth consecutive victory of the season.
Both sides had quite contrasting starting line-ups to the previous week in the Genero Trophy, which made it a different type of game to its predecessor.
Flint were more controlled, playing a better style of football than they managed seven days earlier.
Bangor enjoy using their pace and playing balls over the top of defences, so the visitors set up better to cope with this tactic.
The opening goal arrived after 34 minutes.
Ruby McGilloway played the ball from the back into player-manager Becca Eagles’ feet in the middle. Eagles turned on the ball and chipped it over the back line for Kelsey Davies to run onto. Davies dinked it over the last defender’s head before her shot was saved by keeper Catrin Roberts, but the ball was pushed into the path of Laura Williams, who had continued her run towards goal and was able to find the net whilst being under pressure by a defender.
It was Williams’ fifth goal in three games since joining the club in the summer.
The second away goal arrived three minutes into the second half.
A great through ball between the Bangor centre half and left back from Millie O’Connor within her own half released Kelsey Davies, who stayed composed in a 1v1 with the keeper and rounded her to make it 2-0. New signing Davies netted for the second successive game to make it three goals in two outings.
For all their efforts, Bangor were unable to get back into the match. A goalscorer appears to be a major priority for the City management.
