Tier 4 giant-killers Talysarn Celts advanced to the last 32 of the FAW Amateur Trophy with a memorable victory on penalties over third-tier Ardal North West visitors Mynydd Isa.
The tie at Gloddfa Glai finished 4-4 after 90 minutes, leading to a shoot-out which the North Wales Coast West Premier Division underdogs shaded.
Celts extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine matches, having not lost since going down 2-0 at home to Penmaenmawr Phoenix in the Welsh Cup on the opening day.
Since then they have gone undefeated in the league and currently sit second in the table behind Menai Bridge Tigers.
While playing at a standard above, Mynydd Isa’s form going into Saturday’s tie was nowhere near as impressive as Talysarn’s, the Flintshire outfit having lost three games in succession.
Celts were the better side for the opening 25 minutes, taking the lead on five when Llion Roberts struck after fine work from Jack Usher and Glyn Hughes-Thomas.
Further chances fell to the home side which were not taken, and before half time goals from Charlie Ferguson and Shaun Tinsley had edged Isa ahead.
Three minutes into the second half it was level again when Usher crossed for Hughes-Thomas to head home.
Tinsley made it 3-2 to the visitors on 57, but Roberts restored parity with an hour gone.
James Beck nudged the away side in front again on 67, but Owi Glyn headed home a Jake Calley-Thomas delivery after 86 to ensure it ended four-apiece.
Josh Williams, Calley-Thomas, Guto Hughes, Jac Jones and Gethin Jones put away pens for Celts, while Tyler Jones saved from Tinsley before Jack Jones hit the bar for Isa, meaning the underdogs had achieved a notable scalp.
