The course for the popular annual Holyhead Breakwater 5-mile race had to be changed at the last minute due to a high tide and strong blustery winds that were constantly battering waves against the outer defensive walls.
This event, also part of the North Wales 5-mile championships, was therefore quickly amended to just 4-miles, which at least allowed the run to continue for medals, despite a shorter, but safer route for the 171 runners.
Samuel Gunning (Cybi Striders) was the overall winner in 20 minutes and 36 seconds, but it proved to be an exciting tussle for honours with his rivals Cai Llewelyn (Rhedwyr Hebog) posting 20.42, and Josh Keogh (Eryri Harriers) 20.49.
Anna Drinkwater (Eryri Harriers) was first female finisher in 24.07, and local teenager Tamsin Seguin (Menai T&F) was runner-up in 25.24, with Margot Sayer (Eryri Harriers) third in 25.50.
Cybi Striders had three club members in the top six finishing places in both the male and female sections and they finished second in the mixed clubs category with Eryri Harriers top and North Wales Road Runners third.
NWRRC entered nine athletes and Jonathan Kettle led the team home in 13th place and 2nd VM50 in 22.35 Will Williams was 22nd and 3rd VM50 in 23.44.
Steve Roberts was 72nd and 2nd VM60 in 29.20, with Cheryl Frost 1st FV60 in 29.22.
Kay Hatton was 95th and 2nd FV60 in 31.01, with Nia Lister 106th in 32.20 and Hannah Griffith 114th in 33.01. Master vet Rob Fryer came 2nd VM70 in 133rd place overall in 35.16, whilst super-vet Mike Hayton was 157th and 1st VM75 in 40.10.
In the NW 5-mile championships, the NWRRC club won seven prestigious medals in their respective age categories, with veterans Cheryl Frost (FV60) and Mike Hayton (VM75) winning gold; whilst silver medals were awarded to Jonathan Kettle (VM50), Steve Roberts (VM60), Kay Hatton (FV60) and Rob Fryer, whilst Will Williams (VM50) won a bronze medal.
NWRRC veteran Kevin Higgins enjoyed his seaside outing on Sunday at the Southport 10k race finishing strong in 59.10 despite the hot weather.

There was another bumper attendance at the Llandrillo yn Rhos parkrun on Saturday with over 500 runners and walkers enjoying the warm sunshine and the picturesque 5k promenade course.
The almost ever-present athlete and his twin buggy in James Yarwood (Wrexham AAC) was again first finisher in just 17 minutes and 4 seconds. Mark Pemberton recorded a new course PB 17.11, with JM15-17 athlete Eben Jones third in 17.52.
Top female was well-known athlete Laura McKenzie (Betsi Runaways) in 64th place in 22.12, but just one-second and one place behind Rebecca Downs (Colwyn Bay AAC) and Toni Crook claimed a CPB 22.35. There were 503 finishers.
NWRRC had six members involved including: Paul Aubert 45th in 21.33; veteran Karen Butler made her course debut in 121st place in 25.18, and won her VW65 cat; with Tony Price Jones 183rd in 27.33; and master vet Don Hale 208th and 3rd VM70 in 28.20. Good to see veteran Len Jackson back at parkrun in 228th place in 28.43; whilst evergreen Mike Hayton took 282nd and was 1st VM75 in 30.23.
Colwyn Bay AAC: Josh Mottram 1st SM18 in 20.41 in 30th place, Rebecca Downs 65th in 22.13; Ian Taylor 84th in 23.24 and Molly New 176th in 27.21.
GOG Triathlon: Steve Owen 12th CPB 19.01; Andy Jones 41st in 21.20; and Andy Brazier 66th in 22.20.
Other local runners worthy of mention included: Simon Nixon (Denbigh Harriers) 68th and 1st VM65 in 22.26, and well done to birthday boy Mike Pemberton, who just 24-hours after reaching the masters age category, won his new VM70 in style in 26.09; just ahead partially sighted athlete Daniel Owens and his guide Tash Doran-Jones (Team Runna) IN 26.22.
Fell runner Josh Keogh was first at Conwy Parkrun in just 17.17, chased by Sam Ashton on his course debut in 18.09, with JM15-17 athlete Matthew Kemp (Wellingborough & District AC) recording a CPB 18.34 to take third spot.
First female was visitor Rachel Morgan (9th) in 20.30, followed by Alice Johnston (Les Croupiers) in 21.07 and Mia Williams in 22.39. There were 225 finishers at Conwy.
NWRRC entered three with master vet Barrie Wells 56th and 1st VM70 in 25.07, super vet Sandy Johnston 76th and 1st VM75 in 26.14, with Rob Fryer 2nd VM70 in 27.36.
GOG Triathlon: Jan Feeley (40th) in 24.19; super vet Liz Evans 63rd and 1st VW75 in 25.35; Peter Woodhouse 135th in 29.59, and Liz McIndoe 188th in 36.42.
Visitor Jack Lax (Yeovil Town RRC) won the Penrhyn Castle parkrun in just 17.35, with Iolo Owen runner-up in 18.51.
Top female was JM11-14 Alesha Santos on her debut in 20.46, with Ellin Haf (Eryri Harriers) second in 20.49, and another debutant in Rachel White third in 22.24. Will Williams from NWRRC was 5th and 1st VM50 in 19.18. There were 273 finishers.
Aaron Dodwell won the Nova Parkrun in 17.37, first-timer Connor Attwood was second in 18.00, with Tony Wood (Denbigh Harriers) third in 18.09.
First female was Hayley McEwan (Esporta) in 22.12, with Marie Watson (Ilkley Harriers) second in 22.54 and JW11-14 athlete Freya Roberts-Howie third in 23.46.
Prestatyn RC entered 29 members and the top three were: (16) Alex Ryder 21.05; (17) Robert Grima 21.49 and (18) Jonah Armstrong in 21.52. There were 353 finishers.
