Exciting new signing for Holyhead Hotspur – plus retained players list

Sam Jones (CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 to Holyhead Hotspur)

Versatile attacking player Jones is an exciting new addition to the Hotspur squad for 2026-27, having just won a Tier 3 treble with CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876.

The 26-year-old’s talents first emerged as a youth under the late Sean Brett at Menai Bridge Tigers, where his prolific goal scoring earned him a move to Bangor City.

As top-scorer in City’s Development side, he secured four first team substitute appearances in 2017-18, including a Welsh Premier debut against Llandudno on January 1, 2018.

In the 2018-19 season, which Bangor spent in the Cymru Alliance, Jones featured in 23 games, making 12 starts and scoring seven goals.

Jones sealed a move to Cymru Premier Caernarfon Town in 2019-20, where he made 19 Cymru Premier appearances as a substitute, scoring once in a 5-0 win over Airbus.

The 2020-21 season saw Jones come on as sub in 12 Cymru Premier matches for the Cofis, finding the net in a 2-0 victory against Barry Town United.

Jones signed for Colwyn Bay in the Cymru Alliance at the start of 2021-22, scoring seven times in 31 league and cup games.

Next came a stint at Llandudno in 2022-23, where he bagged 10 goals in 32 outings for the Seasiders.

The striker switched to Bangor 1876 in 2023-24, and at the end of the 2025-26 his record read 92 appearances and 29 goals.

Jones has been a great success in three Island Games football tournaments for Ynys Môn. scoring 5 goals in a one-time gold and double silver-medal winning side.

He is the second big signing announced by Hotspur this week, joining goal-getter Byron Davis at the New Stadium.
