Football club members and care home staff join forces to raise funds

Greenfield FC’s footballers are used to kicking a ball around on a Saturday – but this weekend brings a different kind of challenge.

Tomorrow the North East Wales League club’s players and management will be joined by the manager and staff of a local care home at a fundraising event.

Rebecca Ditchfield, manager of Clock House Residential Ltd in Mostyn, will accompany her colleagues – as well as members of Greenfield FC and their families – for a fundraising walk up Eryri in aid of the football club on Saturday, May 23.

Clock House has 15 residents at present, all men aged between 22 and 48, who have learning disabilities.

The care home helps them to be as independent as possible, including with their sports and hobbies.

This support includes enabling the residents to visit Greenfield FC to watch matches, which Clock House says delights the residents who always received a great welcome in a safe environment.

As a show of support, Miss Ditchfield – whose partner Dean Hyland also works for Clock House and is a striker for Greenfield FC – will be taking on the challenge at the weekend in the hope of raising money to put towards grounds maintenance equipment.

The group taking part in the walk has grown from a small number to around 30, all of whom will be paying a donation to take part, with some also seeking sponsorships.

Anyone who wishes to donate to the cause can do so by contacting Miss Ditchfeld at Clock House, or by contacting Greenfield FC secretary Denny Hogan or chair John Hughes via the club’s social media accounts.
