Mynydd Isa Under-21s were crowned FAW Reserve League North Championship Conference champions on Wednesday night following a 4-1 home win over Bala Town U21.
That made it a club treble, with the Mynydd Isa Reserves lifting a third consecutive North East Wales Reserve Division One crown last month, as well as the ladies landing the NEWFA Women’s Recreational Cup.
Mynydd Isa U21s produced a late surge to snatch the Championship Conference title from CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876. Development.
Five straight victories to round off the campaign for the Flintshire side included massive wins over title contenders NFA Under-23s and Llanrwst United Reserves.
With Bangor having a better goal difference, only a win would do for Isa against Bala on Wednesday, and they achieved this courtesy of doubles from 16-year-old star Fraser Dodd and Joshua Holmes.
Isa initially finished ninth in the phase one Reserve League North, meaning they joined the bottom half Championship Conference for the second stage the season.
Things did not start too well, Isa taking just one point from the first six available, but they soon began to motor.
Despite the strong challenges of NFA and Bangor, the Argoed side finished as top dogs!
“Congratulations to our U21s, who secured the FAW National Reserve League North – Championship Conference title last night! A rampant first half sealed the deal and the young lads can celebrate a superb first season in this new competition.
“It was a bit of a gamble at the start of the season and a big ask to make the step up from U17s-U19s football and mix it with some outstanding Tier 1 academy sides and strong Tier 2/3 Reserve/Development teams, but to their credit the lads have learned a lot from their debut season and deservedly came away with the league title.
“Well done to Greg, Holly and all involved on an excellent season.”
