North Wales Cricket League T20 competition: mighty Mochdre lead way after four straight wins

Mochdre make the early running in the North Wales Cricket League T20 competition with four straight wins, including a ruthless double over Gwersyllt Park and Brymbo on Saturday.

Brymbo, St Asaph and Denbigh have all recorded three wins in their opening four games.

Four consecutive defeats see Hawarden Park currently propping up the early table.

Hawarden Park 1st XI (0) 112-6 St Asaph 1st XI (4) 113-3

Jacob Duker top-scored with 51 as Hawarden Park set 112-6 off 20 overs after electing to bat, Danny Ryan taking 3-12 for St Asaph, who responded with a winning 113-3 off 16.4, Mathew Ryan 43.

Menai Bridge 1st XI (0) 140-4 Brymbo 1st XI (4) 141-6

Jason Underwood’s commanding 47 not out off 26 balls guided Brymbo to victory at Tyn-y-Caeau.
Bridge posted 140-4 after opting for first knock, Dion Holden 47 and Gethin Roberts 41 not out, the latter putting on an unbroken 62 for the fourth wicket with Robbie Jones (27 no), then the Steelmen responded with 141-6 off 18.2 to win by four wickets, Dikshant Viaragi (34) and Christopher Taylor (28) adding useful scores before Underwood took centre stage.
Ayush Verma picked up 2-25 and Jamie Fotheringham 2-26 for the islanders.

Mochdre 1st XI (4) 172-6 Gwersyllt Park 1st XI (0) 115-9

Captain Adam Campion cracked 61 not out off 46 balls and Owen Davies made 52 in a sixth wicket stand of 97 as Mochdre compiled a massive 172-6 off 20, Iroshan De Silva 3-24 for Gwersyllt, who were limited to 115-9, Jamie Griffiths 31, Ted Pearson 31 not out and De Silva 30, Will Evans 2-8 and Joe Chaplin 2-18 for the hosts.

Mold 1st XI (0) 128-5 Denbigh 1st XI (4) 147-4

Shaun Nash struck 63 not out off 41 deliveries in Denbigh’s winning total of 147-4 after they were put into bat, Munowar Samsodien 2-19 for Mold, who were kept down to 128-5, Thomas North 38, Stuart Griffiths 4-31 for the visitors.

Bangor 1st XI (0) 134-8 Northop 1st XI (4) 140-3

Richard Walker (55) and Sion Morris (52) led the way as Northop reached a useful 140-3 off 20, then Bangor were only able to muster 134-8 in reply, Smit Parekh 52, Morris 3-18 and Bart Ryan-Beswick 2-24 for the Flintshire side, who won by six runs.

Hawarden Park 1st XI (0) 93-8 Denbigh 1st XI (4) 96-3

A comfortable seven-wicket victory for Denbigh, who restricted Hawarden Park to 93-8, Campbell Marr 49, Shaun Nash 3-13 and Stuart Griffiths 3-17 for the visitors, who then responded with 96-3 in 16, Harrison Jones (40 not out) and Nash (21 no) forming an undefeated partnership of 56 for the fourth wicket, Ian Martin 2-19 for the hosts.

Menai Bridge 1st XI (0) 143-8 Gwersyllt Park 1st XI (4) 154-7

A monstrous 86 not out off 46 balls from skipper Jamie Griffiths, which included seven sixes and six fours, helped Gwersyllt to 154-7, Gethin Roberts 2-19 and Ayush Verna 2-23 for the hosts, who could only get to 143-8 in reply, skipper Robbie Jones 33, Ralf Fernando 2-23 and Neil Pearson 2-36 for the winners from Wrexham.

Mochdre 1st XI (4) 172-6 Brymbo 1st XI (0) 132-5

Josh McIntyre (28) and Alex Davies (27) were the top two contributors in Mochdre’s fine total of 172-6, Dikshant Vairagi 3-20 for Brymbo, who got nowhere near victory, ending on 132-5, Jason Underwood 50 not out and Richard Deniz 30, Joe Chaplin 3-48 for the hosts, who had a great day.

Mold 1st XI (0) 156-4 St Asaph 1st XI (4) 159-1

Openers Mathew Ryan (74) and Kyle Williams (53 not out) smashed 140 between them as Saints eased to victory on 159-1 off just 13.5 overs.
Mold had earlier set 156-4 off their 20, Louis Boulton 53 no and Richard Crane 33, Joseph Norman 2-17 for the visitors.
