After the heartache of back-to-back defeats in the Ardal North promotion play-off for the past two seasons, CPD Llanuwchllyn made absoluteluy sure there would be no repeat in 2025-26 as they secured the Ardal North East League title in a canter by thrashing Builth Wells 7-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The result put Sion Tudor’s side an uncatchable 19 points clear at the summit, ensuring they are promoted to the JD Cymru North for the first time.
Every season the second-placed clubs in Ardal North East and North West compete in a play-off for elevation to Tier 2.
In 2023-24, Llanuwchllyn lost on penalties to Llay Welfare after a 0-0 draw, then last term were beaten 3-0 at Holyhead Hotspur.
This season, Llanuwchllyn made sure that play-off is someone else’s worry and no-one can deny they are worthy North East champions with 22 wins in 26 matches, just one loss and 102 goals scored.
Today’s victory was their 13th in a row across all competitions – 10 of those in the league.
Meilir Williams was a hat-trick hero for the hosts, boosting his season’s goals tally to 48 – just one short of the figure he hit last term.
Young Gwydion Roberts knocked in the first two goals, Aled Parry and Steffan Dolben were also on the mark. Seth Bridgeman notched Builth Wells’ reply.
Llanuwchllyn are on course for a double having reached the Ardal North League Cup Final, where either CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 or Knighton Town await.
