If ever one match spoke volumes about Llandudno’s recovery powers this one did.
Dramatic late rallies ending in victory had been a common theme in the 2024-25 season for the Seasiders, but this classic at Buckley equalled any of them.
After a blank first half, the Bucks took a two-goal lead through Luke Mariette and Bradley Knight on 56 and 65 minutes respectively.
With 15 minutes left, it was still 2-0, but Adam Stephens pulled one back and then made it two-apiece on 89.
The Seasiders would be delighted with a point after this fightback surely? Not this team.
Two minutes into added time, sub Dylan Proctor bagged the winner and the visitors celebrated wildly.
It looked destined to be a Titanic struggle between Llandudno, Airbus and Holywell Town for the title this season.
The latter two had been crowned Tier 2 champions recently, while Tudno were in some ways the new kids on the block.
Airbus were unbeaten in 11 up to this point, Tudno undefeated in 10.
On this day, Llandudno shook North Wales football with a stunning 5-0 win which shattered the Wingmakers’ spotless record.
Callum Stephens led the charge with Tudno’s only league hat-trick of the campaign, while Harvey Bennett and Adam Stephens also found the target.
Interesting one this.
Llandudno had not played a league match in 30 days but the last time they were in action their undefeated run had ended at Rhyl.
How would Jordan Hadaway’s men respond? A visit to Holyhead was not the easiest of assignments.
The Seasiders took just six minutes to grab the lead as Aidan Higgins scored from Iwan Cartwright’s cross.
Tudno found a second goal in first half stoppage time as Nick Grogan marked his debut for the club with a superb strike from distance.
An own goal from Anthony Stephens seven minutes into the second half gave Holyhead a lifeline, but Llandudno were able to see out the remainder of the match to claim the points.
Tough test passed.
Now a point behind Airbus, Llandudno still had two games in hand over the table-toppers.
Another of those games where a potential champion’s mettle is tested.
Llandudno maintained their five-point lead at the top with a nervy 3-2 victory over next-to-bottom Penrhyncoch
Tudno were gifted the lead in the 15th minute as Penrhyn defender Rhydian Davies touched the ball past his own goalkeeper Leigh Jenkins.
Adam Stephens doubled Llandudno’s advantage before Iwan Cartwright added a third goal on the stroke of half-time with a header from a corner.
Penrhyncoch were far from finished. Dan Owen pulled a goal back for the Roosters six minutes after the restart before Adam Stephens was shown a straight red card, reducing the Seasiders to 10 men.
Garin Evans opened his account for Penrhyncoch in the 85th minute to set up an edgy finish for Llandudno, but the visitors held on to make it six straight league wins.
To be the best you have to beat the best – and Llandudno were not found wanting against the Wellmen in this six-pointer.
Mark Cadwallader’s 18th and 19th goals of the season in all competitions banked three huge points for the leaders at Go Goodwins Stadium.
The Seasiders pushed eight points clear at the summit and after this result were assured of the top three place needed to seal promotion to the Cymru Premier – Tier 1 licence depending.
Cadwallader nudged Tudno in front on 26 minutes and added a second via a Callum Stephens assist on 82.
Jamie Breese replied for the Wellmen after 86, but Llandudno held on to make it 13 games, 13 wins in the league at the Go Goodwins this term. They have since extended that record to played 15 won 15 – a 100% success rate.
