Good news: Amlwch Town women could be on the way back!

Amlwch Town are on the comeback trail after a season away from North Wales senior women’s football.

The Ynys Mon club withdrew from the new North Wales Coast League before the start of 2025-26 due to lack of players.

The Lon Bach side had struggled on gamely for a fair while with a small squad, but this season found it no longer viable to carry on. However, now a return is in the offing.

Amlwch Town said on its social media tonight: “We’re delighted to share that the club is exploring plans to re-establish a women’s team for the upcoming season.

“Our aim is to build a competitive squad that blends local talent, emerging young players, and experienced footballers – creating a team capable of competing strongly at Tier 3 level.

“We’re looking to get things moving as soon as possible, with open sessions and further details to follow shortly. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of something new and help shape the future of women’s football at the club.

Amlwch are one of the longest-serving clubs in North Wales women’s football. Their demise last August meant Ynys Môn has had just two senior women’s teams competing this season – Llangefni Town and Trearddur Bay.

Amlwch’s strongest years came at the end of the last decade and the start of the current one.

They won their first trophy, the North Wales Supplementary Cup, in 2018-19, beating Wrexham Ladies 2-1 in the final at Rhyl.

Following the unprecedented success of the Ynys Môn women’s team at the 2019 Inter-Games, Amlwch signed a number of players from the representative squad.

They went on to win the North Wales Women’s League Division Two title in a 2019-20 season shortened because of the pandemic, not losing a single game in doing so.

Recent seasons had seen the team’s results decline, but determinedly they continue to compete.

Amlwch were one of 10 teams set to participate in the new North Wales Coast Women’s League at the start of this season, but had to scrap their plan due to a shortage of numbers.

However, the picture now looks more promising.
