CPD Nefyn United 2 Menai Bridge Tigers 0
Geiriau: Y Bardd Penwaig
In the most pivotal clash of the season so far, CPD Unedig Nefyn proved they possess the strong will of title contenders.
In a pulsating six-pointer at the top of the table, the Penwaig struck twice in the dying moments to dismantle Menai Bridge Tigers and reclaim top spot in the North Wales Coast West Premier.
The opening exchanges belonged to the visitors, as Menai Bridge looked to capitalize on playing with the strong wind. However, the Tigers found no joy against a Nefyn backline that refused to blink.
Well-marshalled by captain Llyr Pennant Williams, the defence turned the first half into a masterclass of containment, ensuring the Tigers’ threat remained theoretical rather than tangible whilst also creating the better clear chances.
Nefyn grew as the first half progressed. The influence of Deio Jones became the game’s defining feature; his ability to dictate play allowed Nefyn to squeeze the visitors deeper into their own half. The breakthrough seemed inevitable, but for the heroics of Bridge keeper Leo Owen, who produced two exceptional saves to momentarily keep the visitors in the game.
With the game balanced on a knife-edge and the clock ticking toward a stalemate, Nefyn’s premier partnership delivered once again. In the 86th minute, Tomi Evans turned provider, finding Steffan Toplis to run in behind, The “January Sensation” made no mistake, racing clear of the defence before clinically dispatching a strike that sent Cae’r Delyn into a frenzy.
Nefyn showed no mercy. In the 92nd minute, Toplis turned provider, unleashing a drive that was too hot for Owen to handle. High-energy substitute Meical Williams was the first to react, smashing home the rebound to seal the points and the top spot.
