NWCFA Development League: Hotspur on brink of West title, Kinmel Bay and Phoenix battle it out in East

Holyhead Hotspur Development celebrate a goal

NWCFA DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE – MARCH 29, 2026

WEST DIVISION

Holyhead Hotspur Development 6 CPD Nefyn United – Tim Datblygu 0

Holyhead Hotspur Development will wrap up the West Division title if they beat island rivals Trearddur Bay Development at The New Stadium next Sunday (April 5).
With their vastly superior goal difference, just one more point will very likely seal the crown for Scott Hakesley’s side, who are unbeaten in 19 league outings which include 18 wins and now 100 goals scored exactly after Sunday’s demolition of nearest challengers Nefyn United – Tim Datblygu.
Mel McGinness (2), Lucas Garmey, Ryan Woodruff, Cameron Buckley and Reece Thomas Francis shared the goals in Holyhead’s latest success.
Manager Hakesley runs us through the game:
“With so many games being called off, a big shout to our very good groundskeeper Mark getting this one to go ahead.
“Today we welcomed Nefyn who always put up a big performance, but knowing their style it was vital we opened up the pitch.
“Following last week’s shape we picked up where we left off keeping the ball nicely and dominating possession.
“With that the goals started to flow.
“Lucas Garmey grabbed the first closely followed by Ryan Woodruff, then with Nefyn being stretched, they brought down Lucas and we were awarded a penalty. Up stepped experienced player Melv McGinness to slot home.
“Then in the 40th minute some unselfish play from Noel Owen and today’s MOTM found the busy Cameron Buckley to guide it home. On the stroke of half time Ryan found Melv at the back post to grab his second and take us in 5-0.
“Half time and all we wanted was to keep the ball and not force our play.
“With a good crowd watching today, Cameron continued to ask questions
, finding young Reece Thomas to score our 100th league goal this season.
“Once again everyone in today’s squad played their part and bought into what we expect.
“The league is firmly in our hands now and the lads are hungry to see it through.
“Thanks to The Port Inn Holyhead having us back today.
“Next up at the New Stadium we welcome Trearddur Bay on 5th April 14.30 kick off. Hope to see you all there – the cafe and bar will be open.”
