Wrexham trio narrowly miss out on Futsal glory

Wrexham Foresters trio Kirstie Kural, Laura Tobin and Becky Foster narrowly missed out on their dream of making the Elite Round in the UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO 2027 women’s competition today.

England drew 0-0 with Serbia to finish second and unbeaten in Group B with a win and two draws, but that was not enough for them to advance.

Bosnia and Herzegovina topped the group to become one of five main round qualifiers to reach October’s Elite stage.

Despite having 41 shots, dominating the play and hitting the post, England could not break through against the Serbs.

In the earlier group games, Kural had netted twice in a 4-0 victory over hosts Lithuania and scored from a stunning free kick in a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

First-time Women’s Futsal EURO entrants France and Norway both topped their groups with three wins out of three while Bosnia and Herzegovina came first in Group B with two wins and one draw.

Slovenia and Czechia went through as the two best runners-up with six points each, pipping the other second-placed side England, who ended their debut Women’s Futsal EURO campaign undefeated.

Kural, Tobin and Foster will now concentrate on leading Wrexham Foresters’ quest to win the Central Wales North Ladies Football League, which they presently lead with a 100% record.
