Three surprise results out of three in the JD Cymru North on Friday evening.
Denbigh Town, Ruthin Town and Buckley Town were all smiling at the final whistles.

JD CYMRU NORTH

Denbigh Town 3 (Brown 5, 65, Palmer OG 37)
Airbus UK Broughton 2 (Williams 54, Peers 82)

Report: Ollie Beech

Not only did Denbigh Town become the only team to complete a league double over Airbus since the Cymru North was formed in 2019, they also delivered a big blow to the Wingmakers’ title aspirations.

While Mark Allen’s side are already assured of promotion to the Cymru Premier – provided they gain a Tier 1 licence – they remain contenders for the champions’ position, but Friday night’s loss made them clear second favourites now behind leaders Llandudno.

Within five minutes Town had the advantage, as Scott McHarrie threaded an inch-perfect pass for Nathan Brown who at an angle smashed home past goalkeeper Sam Fenney and a defender on the line.

Dewi Llion’s men were rampant in the first half, chasing every lost cause and smothering the visitors who endured a series of efforts blitzed at goal. Alfie Vaughan hit a volley that flew just wide before Gwion Dafydd curled an effort from distance that had to be tipped over.

It was all Denbigh before Airbus’ first real chance of note on 25 minutes came through Danny Warren, who on the right of the box forced Oli Farebrother into a stop at the near post.

The hosts responded moments later when Vaughan’s through ball for Brown saw him lift the ball towards goal but Fenney backpedaled to tip away.

On 37 minutes the crucial second home goal came, when Brown’s corner was turned into the net by Airbus man Joe Palmer who in reality couldn’t do much to prevent it.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town 2-0 Airbus UK Broughton

The beginning of the second half saw the side from Broughton come out of the blocks quickly and put Town on the back foot.

Warren had an effort denied again by Farebrother before being denied by a crucial tackle in the box by McHarrie.

Nine minutes after the restart Airbus halved the deficit. A free-kick from Jordan Evans was pushed away by Farebrother only for Nathan Williams to send a header into the bottom right corner.

The game appeared to change significantly just before the hour mark, as Owen Davies’ challenge was judged to be a foul by referee Nick Pratt, who handed him a second yellow card to reduce Town to ten.

Airbus continued the pressure, Evans this time had a pop from range which had to be dealt with by Farebrother.

With the next goal looking destined to come from the visitors, a moment of magic from Brown saw him pick the ball up following a superb run from Lockley, and rifle the ball into the top left corner from 30-yards for a massive goal in the contest against his former club – his 18th of the season and his 88th in 139 appearances since joining DTFC in 2022-23.

Vaughan almost grabbed the fourth on 68 minutes when played in down the left but his shot across goal was touched behind, whilst Brown nearly had his hat-trick but Farebrother heroically tipped over

With eight remaining the clash was in the balance, as the Cymru North’s top scorer George Peers was allowed to turn just inside the box and make it 3-2 with his 23rd Cymru North strike of 2025-26.

Town’s final chance before battening down the hatches came on 85 minutes. A corner found Dan Davies who headed the ball against the near post.

Now a barrage of balls into the Denbigh box just wouldn’t fall for the visitors, and Town held on for a huge win.

It was Airbus’ first league defeat since Town won at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium in November. The Wingmakers had won 13 matches in a row before Friday.

Newtown 0 Buckley Town 2

With seven straight league defeats behind them – and no wins in 10 – what chances Buckley upsetting the odds at fourth-place Newtown on Friday evening?

Not particularly good looking at the stats, but sequences are made to be broken, and boy did the Bucks choose an opportune occasion to stop the rot.

The visitors took a 15th minute lead at Latham Park, Connor Littler being brought down in the box and Ben Guest dispatching the subsequent penalty.

And Asa Hamilton’s men doubled their money on 43 when Lewis Hodson set up Aled Bellis to make it 2-0.

Newtown’s misery only increased in the second half when Robert Evans was red-carded on 62 minutes.

Town saw it out for a crucial three points which lifts them up to eighth spot.

Ruthin Town 2 Gresford Athletic 1

Bottom side Ruthin took advantage of a pair of penalties to claim their first league win after a four-loss sequence.

Things looked promising for Gresford manager Dave Evans against his former club when Haci Ozlu’s 13th goal of the season handed the Colliers a 15th minute lead, Mitchell Williams assisting.

Town levelled on 29 minutes when Daniel Holland netted from the spot.

It stayed 1-1 until the 88th minute, when Ruthin were awarded a second pen and this time sub Dave Forbes did the necessary.
