Only 3.5 miles separate Conwy and Glan Conwy, but there was a much wider gulf when the two teams met in the latest A55 derby at Y Morfa Stadium.
Conwy Borough Swifts have somewhat stabilised since dropping down to Tier 4, with this latest victory lifting them into the top five of the North Wales Coast East League Premier.
In contrast, Glan Conwy remain rooted and adrift at the foot of the table. Glan will certainly be glad to see the back of this season and start afresh in the summer.
Borough were quick to go on the front foot and took the lead from a corner. Ollie Clarke’s pinpoint delivery picked out Cieran Williams, who timed his jump perfectly to head into the top corner.
Another set play almost led to a second. Captain Jonah Wilton was left unmarked at the back post, but his header from a free kick went over. Moments later, the visitors failed to clear and Ethan Hill thrashed his shot into the car park.
Time after time, the hosts were afforded plenty of space only for poor execution with the final ball letting Glan Conwy’s defenders off the hook.
A Wilton volley lacked power and curled tamely into goalkeeper Cameron West’s gloves, while teammate Isaac Carey’s effort was short on precision as it zipped on top of the netting.
The visitors began the second half much brighter. Cyril Carey pushed his way past two markers and saw a shot from distance bounce off shot stopper Felix Domagala’s chest. Alas, it proved to be a fleeting moment, as Borough quickly re-asserted their authority.
Isaac Carey gave his marker the slip out wide, but couldn’t beat West at his near post. West made good use of his hat to block out the sun and double palm a goalbound header out of the top corner.

Borough came again and finally doubled their lead. Samuel Jones cushioned the ball in the box and it fell invitingly for Williams to net with a half volley from close range for his 13th goal in eight starts for the club he joined in January.
Not long after, Isaac Carey scored the pick of the bunch, placing the ball into the top corner from 25 yards out and beyond West’s reach.
One touch passing carved the Glan Conwy defence open once more, but Williams was denied a hat-trick when he dragged his effort wide.
Borough substitute Jake Carey almost made an instant impact when he connected with Isaac Carey’s cross, only to see his header ricochet back off the bar.
The visitors won a free kick late on, but Domagala easily caught Oliver Carey’s weak effort, which summed up Glan Conwy’s afternoon.
