JD CYMRU PREMIER: Young double helps guide the Cofis to victory over Colwyn Bay

JD CYMRU PREMIER – REPORTS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27
CHAMPIONSHIP CONFERENCE

Caernarfon Town 3 (Young 23, 68; Gosset 80)
Colwyn Bay 0

Caernarfon leapfrogged Colwyn Bay into fourth-place after Friday night’s 3-0 victory over the Seagulls at Go Goodwins Stadium.
This was the fifth meeting between the sides this season, the latest result putting the Cofis 3-2 ahead in wins.
Bay created plenty of chances across the 90 minutes, but lacked a clinical edge up front, although they appeared unfortunate to have a goal disallowed with the score at 1-0.
The visitors threatened first, Louis Robles finding Jordan Davies, whose angled drive was pushed over the bar by Connor Roberts.
Darren Thomas hit a 20-yard effort which flew straight at Bay keeper Alex Brown before Ethan Roberts blasted over and Aeron Edwards skewed wide from a good position for the visitors.
The opening goal on 23 minutes featured a special piece of skill from 19-year-old Town prospect Rio Owen.
The Wrexham forward, who joined the Canaries on loan in January, produced a sublime flick on the turn which left Bay defender Ryan Astles standing before the youngster crossed low into the six-yard area, enabling Brad Young to score with ease.

Bay replied with two big opportunities to equalise. Roberts’ delivery from the left reached Davies, whose firm shot was palmed away by the home keeper.
Edwards should have done better when the hosts’ defence played it dicey at the back, but the former TNS midfielder lashed off target.
Just nefore the break more Rio Owen magic set up Young, whose deflected shot was well saved by Brown.
HALF-TIME: Caernarfon Town 1 Colwyn Bay 0
Mike Wilde’s away side went close early in the second stanza, the ball being returned to Aron Williams eight yards out, but his goalbound shot was cleared by covering defender Kyle Harrison.
Then, controversy! Davies’ close range shot was kept out by Roberts, Robles headed in the rebound, but an assistant’s flag had been raised for offside and the goal was disallowed.
Young almost doubled his tally when he threw himself at a Sion Bradley strike across goal, but was unable to connect.
End-to-end stuff followed as Roberts saved from Davies, then play switched towards the Bay goal, but Bradley’s left-foot screamer whizzed over.

It looked like Caernarfon had gone two-up when Gosset finished well after a Thomas pass, but the flag was again raised for offside – no goal.
Town did score again in the 68th minute when Young finished magnificently from an angle after exchanging passes with Gosset.
And the points were in the bag when Paulo Mendes’ close range attempt was blocked, but Gosset was following up to blast into the roof of the net.
Bay kept going, but were denied even a consolation when Phil Mooney cleared off the line late on.
