Heartbreak for Prestatyn Town in only FAW Amateur Trophy quarter-final to go ahead at weekend

Prestatyn Town skipper Alex Jones produced a typically heroic performance to score two goals in his team’s narrow Trophy loss at Pontardawe

DRAGON SIGNS FAW AMATEUR TROPHY QUARTER-FINALS

Pontardawe Town 4 Prestatyn Town 3

Heartbreak for a Prestatyn side which fought back from 3-1 down to level the tie only for hosts Pontardawe to notch a 96th minute winner.

With the Ardal South West club’s usual Parc Ynysderw grass pitch unplayable because of heavy rain, the game was switched to the nearby 3G.

Pont started well with goals from Sam Harrison and Jenson Stone after 13 and 26 minutes respectively putting them 2-0 up.

Prestatyn hit back with 34 gone when an Arthur Hancock assist enabled captain Alex Jones to make it 2-1, giving the Seasiders fresh hope for the second half.

Two minutes after the restart the Ardal North West visitors suffered a blow when Pont earned a penalty which Kyle Copp put away.

However, Aden Shannon’s side had not made a round trip of well over 300 miles to fold meekly and they roared back to make it all-square through Alex Jones’ second goal on 55 and a Robbie Parry spot-kick after 86.

Penalties were looming when six minutes into stoppage time Copp knocked in the decider.

In the aftermath, Pont coach Corey Bevan was red-carded as well as Prestatyn substitute keeper Elias Jones.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix A CPD Llannefydd A

Game abandoned after 67 minutes by the match official due to concerns over player safety after heavy rain during the first and second half.

Llannefydd led 1-0 at the time proceedings were halted.

A new date is awaited from the FAW.

CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 P Llangefni Town P

Bangor’s Friday night meeting with Llangefni was called off because incessant rain had made the pitch at Nantporth unfit.

The pair are now due to meet at Bangor City Stadium this Wednesday, February 25, kick-off 7.30 pm.

Bridgend Street P Porthcawl Town Athletic P

These two South Wales sides will try again at Willows Avenue this Saturday after their weekend clash was postponed due to the weather.
