Lexi Walsh is Nomads-bound – but is the timing fair?

Lexi Walsh – 22 first team appearances for Kinmel Bay, 47 goals

Kinmel Bay goal machine Lexi Walsh is believed to be on her way to Genero Adran North champions and current leaders Connah’s Quay Nomads.

Walsh, 17, scored her 32nd goal of the season today in a 1-1 draw at Pwllheli, but Bay announced after the match she is moving on to play at a higher level.

It is quite a blow for Bay to lose such a vital player at an important stage of the season with the club strongly in contention for the Tier 3 North Wales Coast Women’s League title.

Nomads are also believed to be signing two other promising Kinmel Bay players in the near future – defender Scarlett Gregson and goalkeeper Hannah Topham.

The Deesiders already have quite a large squad with strength-in-depth. Perhaps it’s a good job Kinmel Bay have quite a few signed on too.

With unbeaten Connah’s Quay well on course to win the Adran North title for a second season in a row, one has to ask is there really a need for them to strengthen at this stage of the campaign, and in doing so deprive a championship-chasing club at a lower level of their prize asset?

End of the season – fine. It’s a free for all then, but to take a key player with around two months of 2025-26 left seems at best over-indulging and at worst, greed.

Shouldn’t there be a deadline that applies to everyone so that clubs cannot lose important players so late in a campaign when they might need them most.

Of course on the flip side, this move offers a great chance of progression for Lexi Walsh, who has netted an amazing 47 goals in 22 appearances since making her senior debut for Kinmel Bay last season.

It’s just the timing that seems somewhat unfair on the club she is leaving.
