FLASHBACK – 10 YEARS AGO: Pierce scores a hat-trick of penalties at Denbigh hit their visitors for six

HUWS GRAY ALLIANCE – FEBRUARY 20, 2016
Denbigh Town 6 (Pierce 3 pens, MacIntyre, Bull, Smith)
Rhayader Town 0
Three penalties from Kristian Pierce guided Denbigh to a big victory in this week 10 years ago.
On a difficult home surface, the hosts handed home debuts to recent signings Alan Bull, Liam Smith and Sal Kisitu whilst Paul Hart was rested as Dan Lloyd returned to the starting 11.
In an open first quarter of the game Denbigh thought they had won a penalty when Bull was fouled but the ref played on.
Rhayader then attacked and had a great chance when Sean Powell went clean through but fired wide.
Denbigh’s Dan Lloyd saw his shot hit the bar before Warren Duckett’s goalbound header was cleared off the line.
The opening goal arrived on 33 minutes when Duckett was pushed in the area and a penalty was awarded. Up stepped Pierce to fire home.
Denbigh flew out the traps for the second half, playing some superb football in difficult conditions. On 51 minutes Bull picked the ball up and ran at the defence before a crude challenge saw a second penalty award, Pierce again converting.
In the 53rd minute Denbigh scored a fantastic goal when some superb build up play saw the ball fall for Dave MacIntyre who thundered in a superb strike from 30 yards.
The home side were in complete control and looked dangerous going forward at every opportunity.
With 69 on the clock, ex-Bangor City striker Bull scored his first goal for the club and one his performance deserved.
Liam Smith added a fifth before right at the death Town were awarded another penalty for handball.
Pierce stepped up and smashed the ball home to complete his hat-trick and hand Denbigh their biggest win of the season.
