Vale of Clwyd derby: Denbigh keeper is the hero in 0-0 draw

NWC LLANDUDNO KIA WOMEN’S LEAGUE – SUNDAY, JAN 18
Denbigh Town 0 CPD Merched Henllan 0
Goalkeeper Netty Young produced an outstanding performance to ensure Denbigh took a home point against their near neighbours on Sunday.
Long-serving stopper Young pulled off magnificent saves to deny Magi Pierce, Abby Cattell and Mabli Fitzgerald in the first half, and the No1’s heroics continued after the break.
A minute’s silence took place before the game in honour of the late Morgan Jones, the CPD Llannefydd striker who sadly passed away last week and was a resident of Henllan.
The home team had a few half chances but rarely troubled the Henllan defence with Ella Allen excellent at left-back.
Sixteen-year old Holly Lowe made her debut for Henllan and looked dangerous throughout the game, going close to scoring many times.
Holly is the latest prodigy to come out of the Henllan youth system over the last six years who have gone on to further their careers.

A CPDM Henllan spokesperson said: “Holly is a player that we have known for years and are delighted to see her make her debut for the ladies team.
“She played for the U17s when she was 14 against Tranmere in a friendly and didn’t look out of place.
“She is quick, very skillful and scored loads of goals in the juniors league that has given her the nickname of hat-trick Holly.”
