Porthmadog express disdain over match incident which left player concussed

Porthmadog FC has expressed disappointment over the incident which left their winger Danny Brookwell suffering from concussion in Saturday’s 3-2 Ardal North West League victory against Trearddur Bay.
In the second half at Y Traeth, Brookwell appeared to be knocked to the floor by a swinging elbow from Bay defender Tom Taylor just before the visitors took a penalty kick.
Taylor has since been released by Trearddur Bay and on Sunday was arrested by North Wales Police over the alleged assault.
The Football Association of Wales will also investigate the incident which has been seen by millions on social media and made headlines on national websites.
Today, Porthmadog released the following statement:
Following the incident that occurred at Y Traeth yesterday afternoon, which has been well documented on various social media outlets, the club would like to emphasise that its major concern is for the welfare and safety of our player Danny Brookwell.
Danny was concussed and following treatment had to leave the field of play. It is our understanding that he is recovering at home.
The club would like to express it’s disappointment that this incident occurred at all and after studying the video evidence have come to the conclusion that if this happened anywhere other than on a football field would amount to common assault.
The club’s intention is to let the appropriate authorities deal with the matter and trust that the right steps will be taken and that we don’t see such a horrific scene again.
Yn dilyn y digwyddiad yn Y Traeth brynhawn ddydd Sadwrn, sydd wedi cael ei ddogfennu’n dda ar amryw o gyfryngau cymdeithasol, hoffai’r clwb bwysleisio mai ei brif bryder yw lles a diogelwch ein chwaraewr Danny Brookwell.
Cafodd Danny gyfergyd ac ar ôl triniaeth bu’n rhaid iddo adael y cae chwarae. Ein dealltwriaeth ni yw ei fod yn gwella gartref.
Hoffai’r clwb fynegi ei siom bod y digwyddiad hwn wedi digwydd o gwbl ac ar ôl astudio’r dystiolaeth fideo, rydym wedi dod i’r casgliad pe bai hyn yn digwydd yn unrhyw le heblaw ar gae pêl-droed y byddai’n gyfystyr ag ymosodiad cyffredin.
Bwriad y clwb yw gadael i’r awdurdodau priodol ddelio â’r mater ac ymddiried y bydd y camau cywir yn cael eu gwneud a’n bod ni ddim yn gweld golygfa mor erchyll eto.
