ARDAL NORTH EAST: Six for Dolgellau, Corwen crash out of cup

ARDAL NORTH EAST – REPORTS JANUARY 10

Dolgellau Athletic 6 Penycae 1
Gerwyn Williams completed back-to-back hat-tricks and moved up to 21 goals for the season as Dolgellau vaulted into the top five with a thumping victory over fourth-place Penycae.
The hosts took a 15th minute lead when captain Jake Jones headed in from a Williams corner.
The second soon followed after Harri Davies crossed into the box and keeper Ben Edwards spilled under pressure from Williams, who clinically dispatched the loose ball.
All the while, Penycae were in the game, and arguably played most of the better football. They were rewarded on 33 minutes when a Thomas Edwards cross was nodded in by Ben Williams for 2-1.
As half time was nearing, Ioan Roberts hit a simple ball into the area where Gerwyn Williams lurked between the centre halves, running on and finishing past the visiting keeper again.
The restoring of the two-goal cushion was much welcomed, especially with Penycae probing and asking questions of Dol’s defensive resolve.
The second half produced some decent football from both teams, despite the worsening conditions.
Dolgellau spoiled a Penycae attack and countered with Willliams finding Aaron Young, who drove into the box, cut onto his left and rifled in for a 4-1 lead.
From here, the hosts managed the game well and the subs helped freshen up the play.
Good team-work once again on 73 minutes resulted in Rob John Kimberley setting up Williams for his hat-trick.
Scoring was complete when a corner was half-cleared to Ioan Roberts, who passed into club veteran Tom Carr, his shot through a wall of players was loosely saved by the keeper and Dion James was there to poke home.
LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH LEAGUE CUP
Corwen 1 Bow Street 5
A comfortable cup success for Bow Street who led 2-0 at half time courtesy of goals from Taylor Watts and Steff Davies.
James Rainbird replied for Corwen early in the second half to make things interesting, but Bow took command in the final 10 minutes with Tomos Roberts, plus subs Caio Carruthers and Jordan Perry making the scoresheet.
