Caernarfon Town have pulled off what must rank as one of the biggest transfer deals in Cymru Premier history.

The Canaries have announced tonight the signing of forward Brad Young, former star of The New Saints, who has recently played in the Saudi First Division and UAE Pro League.

Former Aston Villa first team squad player Young, 22, left Saints in September 2024, joining Saudi Pro-League side Al-Orobah for $250,000 (£190.000) – a record transfer fee received by a Cymru Premier club.

Young spent the 2024-25 season at Al-Orobah, making 17 appearances and scoring twice, but after the club’s relegation moved to Abu Dhabi based Baniyas of the UAE Pro League for 2025-26.

However, he will return to the Cymru Premier at the start of 2026 with Caernarfon Town, currently fourth in the national league and Welsh Cup quarter-finalists.

The club announced the transfer on its social media this evening.

Solihull-born Young is a product of the Aston Villa Academy, being part of the side that won the 2020-21 FA Youth Cup. He also spent time with West Bromwich Albion as a junior.

Young made one senior appearance for Aston Villa as a substitute in a 4-1 FA Cup defeat to Liverpool in 2021 and played senior football on loan at Carlisle United and Ayr United before moving to The New Saints in 2023.

Despite interest from Football League clubs, Young was keen to join the Saints as he had been impressed with what he had seen of – and been told about – Cymru Premier football.

Young played an instrumental role in Saints’ invincible 2023-24 campaign where they won the domestic treble of Cymru Premier title, Welsh Cup and Nathaniel MG Cup.

The midlands man won the league’s golden boot with 22 goals, and also found the net during a European campaign where TNS became the first Welsh domestic side to qualify for the UEFA Conference League league phase. In total, Young scored 32 goals in 43 appearances for TNS in all competitions.

Now his next mission will be to help Caernarfon Town qualify for Europe in 2026. The Canaries clinched a top-six place for phase 2 of the 2025-26 campaign today with a 1-0 victory at Bala Town.
