All hail 10 more North Wales goal kings – part 3!

Following the success of our first two features on 10 North Wales Goal Kings, we’ve decided to compile another.
After using all the thinking power we could muster, we’ve decided to call this one 10 North Wales Goal Kings 3!
To be part of this celebration of Gogledd Cymru’s prolific hitmen, a player has to have scored 200 career goals or more and evidence of this must be provided (or found myself).
We’ll keep producing them if we can keep finding players with the magic number of goals to their credit.
We’d especially like to feature 200-goal plus stars from North East Wales football – such information is in short supply.
JAMIE BREESE 300 (estimate)

This 33-year-old striker has been a prolific marksman at three clubs – Llanidloes Town, Caernarfon Town and current side Holywell Town.
Since joining the Wellmen in January 2024, he has bagged 63 goals in 77 appearances and was part of the 2023-24 Cymru North title-winning side.
As a youngster Jamie trialled with Everton and later had spells as a junior with Tranmere Rovers, Wrexham and Shrewsbury.
At the age of 16, whilst studying at Coleg Powys, he signed for Newtown Youths and after working his way through the ranks the 17 year old made his Welsh Premier league debut for the Robins during 2008/09 with two substitute appearances.
With first team opportunities limited, Jamie signed for Llanidloes Town in 2011-12 and his career really took off.
Over the next four years he became a goalscoring sensation, helping the Daffs to promotion from the Spar Mid Wales Division 1 to the Huws Gray Alliance.
During his time at Victoria Park, he was top scorer in all four seasons. He was crowned 2011/12 Spar League leading marksman and player of the year, then in 2012/13 he topped the league scoring chart again.
In 2014/15 he was named as Huws Gray Alliance top scorer and player of the year with 28 league goals in 30 appearances as the side were relegated.
His overall goals total for Llanidloes is not available.
The 2015-16 campaign brought a move to Caernarfon Town, where Jamie spent five highly successful seasons, bagging 96 goals in 166 appearances.
In his time with the Canaries, he won the Cymru Alliance League title twice and reached the Welsh Cup semi-finals, as well as helping the club secure a return to the Cymru Premier after a 10-year absence. He was top-scorer in three of his five seasons at The Oval.
Jamie returned to Newtown in 2020-21, spending two top-flight seasons at Latham Park before rejoining Llanidloes in 2022-23, where he added another 26 goals to his collection before putting pen to paper for Holywell in January 2024.
The striker’s overall goals total is not known, but with 96 for Caernarfon, 63 at Holywell, 25 at Llanidloes in his second spell and 28 in 2014-15, that makes it 217 – not even taking into account three seasons where he was Daffs leading marksman between 2011-12 and 2014-15, plus the few he would have netted for Newtown.
Probably 300 goals plus is a safe estimate for this popular front man.

STEVEN JAMES WHITTAKER 200+
Two-time winner of the Bob Brodie Trophy, awarded each season to Anglesey’s senior top-scorer, in 2014-15 and 2018-19.
Was at his most prolific for Cemaes Bay, where he bagged 143 goals, but also hit 60 for Bodedern and 18 for Bro Goronwy. Also had a spell at Amlwch Town.
Popularly known as ‘Tyco’, Steve was part of the Cemaes team which lifted the last ever Anglesey League title in 2019-20.
He also played at Tier 3 level for Bodedern Athletic, whom he helped reach the FAW Trophy semi-finals in 2018-19.
One of his greatest seasons was 2014-15, when as Cemaes captain at the Anglesey League presentations, he landed the Alwyn Rowlands Player of the Year and Caerwyn Williams Top Goalscorer awards.

CRAIG MOORE 300+
Like father, like son…a phrase that could have been invented for Anglesey-based striker Craig Moore.
The son of 1990s Glantraeth and Holyhead Hotspur great Nigel Moore, himself a goal-machine, Craig has been a consistent net-finder for many seasons.
Now 34, Craig’s best season was 2018-19, when he bagged 57 goals for short-lived islanders Bryngwran Bulls. He finished second in the Bob Brodie Trophy standings behind James Ryan, provider of an amazing 72 goals for Caergybi.
Craig was fifth in the 2013-14 table and joint fourth in 2014-15, serving Trearddur Bay United both seasons.
Our records can uncover 284 goals for Craig, but we don’t have any stats from before 2012-13. He was 21 that season, so could well have notched a fair few in 3 or 4 campaigns prior to that.
We’d say 300+ was a very realistic estimate.

MEL McGINNESS – 200+
Perhaps Mel’s most famous goal was his late winner for Ynys Môn in a 2-1 victory over Guernsey in the 2019 Inter-Games Final at the New Stadium, Holyhead.
The 35-year-old’s highest total in a season is the 50 he pocketed for Holyhead Hotspur in their treble-winning campaign of 2011-12. That figure made him the first-ever winner of the Bob Brodie Trophy for the leading marksman in Anglesey senior football.
Our confirmed goals haul for Mel is 210, but returns in other seasons are missing, including two whole campaigns before the 2011/12 pinnacle. Hotspur has been by far his most productive club.

DARREN THOMAS 200+
The Caernarfon Town legend’s up to date stats for the club stand at 421 appearances and 148 goals as on December 13, 2025.
While the main bulk of his career has been spent with the Canaries, the 38-year-old wizard has also had productive spells with Llangefni Town, Bontnewydd and Porthmadog, plus a brief stay with Aberystwyth Town.
In 2007-08, he was Llangefni’s top-scorer in their sole League of Wales campaign, netting 13 times in 30 appearances.
Darren also scored a fair few for Cefni in other successful seasons in the Cymru Alliance, the islanders twice winning the league title.
Over one-and-a-half seasons at Porthmadog, Darren notched 22 goals, including 17 in 2011-12.
Based on all the figures available, the “Cofi Messi” should have well in excess of 200 career goals.

GERAINT THOMAS (GER BACH) 300+ (estimate)
With stats from the 1980s and 90s very hard to find, it makes establishing goals totals for many players very difficult indeed.
However, some dedicated people, like Gwalchmai FC legend Will Williams, have kept a number of club records.
Geraint Thomas (Ger Bach) was the most influential midfielder on Anglesey in the 80s and 90s, scoring a magnificent 238 goals for the Maes Meurig club.
Thomas also played for Llannerchymedd and Holyhead Town, though his goal returns for those clubs are not known. Nonetheless, with his reputation and longevity, it is safe to estimate he netted at least 300 goals +.
Ger’s finest days were without a doubt spent with Gwalchmai, who in the 80s and 90s won four Anglesey League titles, three NWCFA Junior Cups, Megan Cup four times, Elias Cup on three occasions, Dargie Cup twice and numerous other trophies.

NIGEL TRIGG 356 (CPD Gwalchmai)
A true Gwalchmai great, the gifted Trigg is the club’s all-time record marksman with 356 goals.
Thanks to the records of club ‘daddy’ Will Williams, we can reveal Nigel netted 248 league goals and 108 in cups for the Maes Meurig outfit.
Like Ger Bach, Bodedern lad Nige was at his peak in the 1980s and 90s when his floods of goals helped Gwalchmai win massive amounts of silverware.
Speaking about both Nige and Ger Bach, former Gwalchmai player and manager Paul Owen (Skin) said: “I was fortunate enough to play alongside both of them – their talent was unreal.”

ANDY WILLIAMS 334 (confirmed)
One of Ynys Môn’s finest goal-getters of the 21st century has mainly made his name as a prolific marksman for Bro Goronwy and Amlwch Town.
The 44-year-old was still turning out last season in Tier 5 for CPD Cefni, although he has not played yet in the current campaign.
William Andrew Williams first made a huge impact in four seasons at Amlwch where he notched 145 goals in four seasons.
In 2010-11, Andy joined Bro Goronwy, where he went on to become a club legend, becoming their all-time top-scorer with 149 goals in 177 appearances over eight seasons.
The 2015-16 campaign saw him switch from the wing to a striking role with great effect as he bagged 41 goals that season. He hit 23 goals in 2016-17 and 27 in 2017-18.
During his spell at Cae Nerys, Andy won a host of honours including the Gwynedd League title, Anglesey League, NWCFA Junior Challenge Cup, Elias Cup and Bwlch Car Boot Trophy.
Cemaes Bay was Andy’s next port of call in 2019-20, the striker netting 19 goals as the School Lane club were crowned the final Anglesey League champions before local football was restructured.
He remained with Cemaes before signing for CPD Cefni at the start of 2023-24, going on to net 11 goals for the club.
Andy’s current confirmed goals total stands at 334 although he may have scored a few more.

MARK ROBERTS 242 (confirmed)
Prolific hitman Roberts has represented Denbigh Town, Llandyrnog United, Buckley Town, Rhyl 1879, Caernarfon Town and Corwen during a 20-year plus senior career.
The 39-year-old is most renowned for being Denbigh’s all-time top marksman of the modern era with 169 goals to his name.
He also had two magnificent seasons at Llandyrnog United, bagging a total of 63 goals which included finding the net eight times in a 12-3 Welsh Cup victory at Blaenau Ffestiniog in 2017-18.
His time at Denbigh provided most of his footballing highlights, none more so than when Town defied the odds to reach the Word Cup Final in 2015/16.
Knocking out three Welsh Premier teams en route in Rhyl, Airbus and Connah’s Quay, the Cymru Alliance underdogs eventually lost 2-0 to full-timers The New Saints in the final.
Mark was also a member of the 2013/14 Denbigh invincibles which landed the Welsh Alliance League title under Richard Williams-Cooke. Their record was 25 wins, three draws and 0 defeats.
Mark also had spells with Buckley Town, Caernarfon Town and Corwen and, most recently, he was at CPD Y Rhyl 1879 in 2023-24, scoring 10 goals. Injuries forced an early retirement.
With 242 goals confirmed, it is more likely Roberts is nearer the 300 or over mark with no stats available for those stints at Buckley, Corwen or Caernarfon.

LEE HUNT 276 (confirmed)
Cymru Premier legend who is fifth in the league’s all-time list with 209 goals.
The Liverpudlian front man first made waves at Bangor City before joining John Hulse’s Rhyl in January 2004 and proved a key signing as the Lilywhites won an unprecedented quadruple of Welsh Premier title, Welsh Cup, League Cup and NWCFA Challenge Cup.
Hunt also helped Rhyl land the Welsh Cup again in 2005-06.
Two further Welsh Cup successes followed, with Bangor City in 2009-10 and Bala Town, who lifted the trophy for the one and only time in their history in 2016-17.
Also had great spells at Prestatyn Town and Bala in the Welsh Premier and played his part in some great European successes.
Hunt featured in Bangor City’s 1-0 Uefa Cup first leg win over Sartid Smederevo in 2002-03, scored twice in Rhyl’s 2-1 victory against FK Atlantas in 2005-06, netted as the Lilywhites defeated FC Haka 3-1 in 2007-08 and was part of the Prestatyn Town squad which beat Liepajas Metalurgs in 2013-14, playing in the first leg, but missing out on the second.
He was, therefore, part of two winning ties for Welsh Premier clubs in Europe.
Now 44, Lee Hunt’s contrubition to Welsh domestic football will never be forgotten.
