Here’s a Christmas Carol with a difference! Nadolig Llawen!

Carol Lewis celebrates a goal for Amlwch Town

Everyone loves a Carol at Christmas…..

So Grassroots North Wales thought we’d join in the tradition, but with a bit of a difference in the form of a celebration of our favourite Carol – CPD Merched Bangor defender Carol Lewis.

Carol has been a friend of the website for many years through her association with Amlwch Town, CPDM Bangor and Ynys Môn.

Instead of the 12 days of Christmas, here are 12 Carol football facts

  • Carol was born on December 14 – the same day as her former Amlwch team-mate Paige Williams and ex-Liverpool and England striker, but North Wales raised Michael Owen.
  • She caught the football bug while a pupil at Ysgol Llannerchymedd, going on to reprresent Ynys Mon Under-16s before then stepping up to Llangefni Ladies, which were the only team in the area at that time.
  • Carol hails from Llannerchymedd, Ynys Môn, and is nowadays a teacher at the same school where she was a student.
  • Over a 22-year span, Carol has represented Ynys Môn at six Island Games – 2003 (aged 15), 2015, 2017, 2019 (Inter-Games), 2023 and 2025. Based on this, she is probably her island’s most capped woman player.
  • Carol was a key defender in the Ynys Môn team which reached the final of the Inter-Games (one-off tournament separate from official Island Games) in 2019.
The Games were held on Anglesey and Môn.women landed the silver medal, losing 2-1 to Isle of Man in the match for the top prize.
  • Carol captained the Ynys Môn women’s team to fifth place at both the 2023 and 2025 Island Games.

  • After spending most of her football career with Amlwch Town, Carol signed for CPDM Bangor at the start of 2024-25 (see picture above). She has made 28 appearances for the blues so far.
  • As a defender, goals have been rare for Carol in her senior career, but she did score for Amlwch in an 11-1 beating of Welshpool Town on December 12, 2021.
  • Back in 2021, super-fit Carol ran 100KM/62.2 miles in aid of Wales Air Ambulance Charitable Trust.
