WELSH CUP: Fairytale occasion in store for village valiants Llanystumdwy

Llanystumdwy travel away to mighty Swansea City in the Bute Energy Women’s Welsh Cup on Sunday

Village side CPDM Llanystumdwy are relishing the prospect of a national cup tie away to one of Wales’ finest teams this Sunday.

The Tier 3 North Wales Coast League minnows face a huge test at Adran Premier giants Swansea City in the last 16 of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup.

Meanwhile, runners-up for the past two seasons Wrexham will aim to avoid a banana skin when they host Penybont.

The all-North Wales tie between Llandudno and Wrexham Foresters is postponed. This is due to some Foresters players being on international Futsal duty.

Llanystumdwy had a taste of the big occasion in last season’s Welsh Cup when they lost to mighty Wrexham at Parc Dwyfor.

This time it will be a long journey south to take on the Swans at Llandarcy Academy of Sport.

Neither Llanystumdwy’s men’s or women’s team have got this far in Wales’ premier knockout before.

So for ladies team manager Sion Parry, who scored more than 250 goals for the men’s side before injury curtailed his career, Sunday cannot come quick enough.

“This game for us is massive, it’s a historic occasion for the club,” said Parry. “We’ve never had a team from this club reach this round before, and just over a year on from playing Wrexham we get to play another one of the big clubs in Wales.

“Wrexham obviously fall into our area so when we found out this round would be a national draw you start dreaming of all possible outcomes.

“A big team at home or any team down South away were the two options we really wanted, so to land Swansea City and for it to also be away is going to be a great experience for us. It’s something we may never get again so we are absolutely going to make the most of the whole occasion.”

Llanystumdwy squad

Wrexham v Penybont

After causing an upset in the last round, second tier side Penybont travel north to face back-to-back finalists Wrexham.

Bont, who currently sit fifth in the Genero Adran South, took top-flight side Barry Town United to a penalty shootout in Round One. Mae Taylor scored the decisive spot-kick to seal their progression.

If they are to repeat their heroics, Leon Williams’ side will have get past current Genero Adran Premier leaders Wrexham.

The Red Dragons are in fine form, having not lost in any competition since the middle of September. They defeated NFA 11-0 in the last round.
