ARDAL NORTH WEST: Bangor City 1876 reach 100 goals for season in victory over Bay

Corrig McGonigle’s winner was Bangor City 1876’s 100th goal of a season which sees them still undefeated in 24 matches after Tuesday’s night’s hard-fought success over Trearddur Bay.

Both these sides were Welsh Cup heroes at the expense of Tier 2 teams on Saturday, Bay beating Newport City 5-3 and Bangor seeing off Trefelin BGC 2-0 to reach the quarter-finals.

Just three days on, this pair of giant-killing giants faced another huge test – this time against each other.

Could they raise themselves for another big effort just 72 hours after their cup exploits? The answer was certainly yes.

Bay were on a great run of eight successive wins and interestingly their squad included Les Davies, a Bangor hero who retired last season, but made a comeback in his home city.

Bangor manager Michael Johnston was celebrating his 38th birthday and he must have been delighted to see his team take a 22nd minute lead when Josh Carey headed home from a Logan Williams delivery.

Trearddur were in no mood to lie down, however, and levelled on 36 minutes through Christoph Aziamale’s 15th goal of the season. Half time 1-1 and all to play for.

Just before the hour City were back in front when McGonigle registered his 21st goal of the season from a free kick.

Bay brought on ex-1876 striker Davies for Sebastian Samuel on 82 minutes, but it made no difference to the final scoreline – yet another Bangor victory.

The result ensures City will enter 2026 top of Ardal North West.
