JD CYMRU NORTH – REPORTS DECEMBER 6-7

Flint Mountain 3 (Owens 45 & 61, Bacon 90+3)
Caersws 0

Mountain edged further clear of the Cymru North bottom four after making it three wins in their last five league matches.

Kieran Owens struck twice for the Flintshire side, who have improved considerably since Liam Dickinson took over as manager in September.

Having drawn 2-2 at Caersws in October, Mountain took on the Powys strugglers with confidence in the return at Bastion Gardens in the only Saturday Cymru North match to survive the weather.

The hosts made the breakthrough right on half time.

Just past the hour, Mountain doubled their lead. A long ball from keeper Dom Garner was flicked on by O’Sullivan for Owens to slot under the keeper

Owens was replaced by Alex Bacon on 68 minutes, and it was the sub who put the icing on the cake (or perhaps the rasher in the bap?) with goal number three in added time.

A counter attack led to a 3v1 scramble in the box and the ball fell to Bacon, making just his second appearance for the team, who finished superbly into the bottom corner.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5

Ruthin Town 0 Holyhead Hotspur 1

November league Player of the Month contender Tomos Owen’s first-half strike was enough to earn Hotspur another three points.

The Holy Islanders made it three league wins in a row on Friday evening and have now picked up 12 points from a possible last 15 to rise into 10th place in the 16-team table.

Jamie Jones provided the assist for captain Owen’s 14th minute goal.

Hotspur were awarded a free kick from the right-side of the area after Connor Owen was brought down following some great hold up play.

Jones then swung the ball into a dangerous area where Tomos Owen was on hand to stab the ball home past the keeper.

In tough conditions and against a Ruthin outfit battling for points themselves under new manager Colin Caton, Holyhead showed grit and determination to grind out a win.

Newtown 1 Penrhyncoch 1

A surprise result at Latham Park, where high-flyers Newtown were held by a bottom team who had nonetheless gained a confidence booster the weekend before in thrashing Buckley 6-0 to record a first league triumph of the campaign.

Jamie Hyne gave the Robins a 73rd minute lead, but Daniel Owen levelled two minutes into stoppage time to upset the odds.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 3 Holywell Town 1

A full report and analysis on this game was published by Grassroots North Wales on Friday night.

Holywell took a 56th minute lead through Jamie Breese, but Archie Jones equalised almost instantly.

Rhyl were now on fire and a Jack Parry double ensured they scuppered Holywell’s unbeaten away record this season.
