JD CYMRU NORTH: Hotspur are on the up, Dave Evans picks up point in first game as Gresford manager

JD CYMRU NORTH – REPORTS AND LEAGUE TABLE FOR SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29

Holyhead Hotspur 3 Flint Mountain 1
Hotspur are on the rise!
Darren Garmey’s side earned a third win in four games with a 3-1 victory at home against Flint Mountain.
Jamie Jones’ 35th minute opener for Holyhead was truly special, a great solo run rounded off with a magnificent chipped finish.
The goal was quickly cancelled out by Samuel John, but the hosts restored their lead just before half-time thanks to Corey Jones’ header from a Callum Graves corner.
Connor Owen built on his hat-trick against Gresford a fortnight ago with his eighth goal of the season early in the second half from close range following a free kick to double Holyhead’s advantage, this victory seeing them move up to 11th in the table – overtaking Mountain in the process.
After failing to win in their first 10 league games, a Hotspur outfit bedding in several new players this season are now starting to settle, having picked up nine points out of 12 in a rewarding November.
Gresford Athletic 2 CPD Y Rhyl 1879 2
Dave Evans marked his first game in charge of Gresford Athletic with a 2-2 draw against Rhyl 1879 at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium on Saturday.
Iwan Roberts scored for the second consecutive game to give Gresford the lead on 33 minutes, before Archie Jones equalised for Rhyl early in the second half.
The visitors were level for barely a minute though as Jake Roberts restored Gresford’s advantage, but Rhyl substitute Damase Kiwanda, who had only been on the pitch for four minutes, set up Jack Parry to equalise again on 79 minutes.
Guilsfield 2 Newtown 1
Guilsfield earned a fifth consecutive home win with a 2-1 victory over mid-Wales derby opponents Newtown.
Results elsewhere meant that the Robins would have moved into the top three with a win, but Guils took the lead after just nine minutes as Callum Bromley fired home from outside the area.
Former Guilsfield frontman Jamie Hyne equalised early in the second half as he powered home a header from Aidan McCann’s corner, but the hosts restored their advantage shortly after the hour mark as Adam Hailes met Iwan Matthews’ low ball and tucked away his second league goal of the season.
Guils forward Sam Flory received a straight red card in the 70th minute, but Gavin Allen’s side held on for victory to move just six points behind the promotion spots – with a game in hand over the teams above them.
Mold Alexandra 1 Airbus UK Broughton 1
Third-place Airbus UK Broughton lost further ground in the title race when they could only draw 1-1 away at Mold.
Harvey Morris bagged his first goal for Alex as he headed home from Matty Lewis’ corner in the 18th minute and the hosts held on to that lead for over an hour despite seeing teenager James Davies sent off for a second bookable offence on 65 minutes.
Airbus were reduced to 10 men themselves in the 85th minute when their own James Davies was shown a straight red card, but the Wingmakers still found an equaliser three minutes later when George Peers went on a solo run and fired past Joe Smith for his 13th league goal of the season.
Penrhyncoch 6 Buckley Town 0
Penrhyncoch claimed their first league victory of the season in emphatic style with a 6-0 win over Buckley Town at Cae Baker.
Rhydian Davies opened the scoring for the Roosters in the 24th minute, before Buckley were reduced to 10 men moments later when Ben Guest received a straight red card. Penrhyncoch then went into the break two goals up as Ifan Burrell found the net in first half stoppage time.
The floodgates opened in the second period as Dan Owen bagged a brace either side of goals from John James and Dion Phillips. The Roosters remain bottom of the table but are now just three points adrift of safety.
