Top of the table!
Wrexham lead the Adran Premier after completing the double over high-flying rivals Swansea City at The Rock on Sunday afternoon, a fourth straight league victory sealed by two late goals.
With champions Cardiff City held 3-3 at home by The New Saints, Jenny Sugarman’s side at last dislodged the long-time leaders in the 10th round of matches.
Having won 3-1 at the Swansea.com Stadium back on October 5, the Red Dragons were today aiming to make it nine games undefeated in all competitions.
The Swans struck first on 28 minutes when Chloe Chivers was allowed to run through the home defence and find the empty net.
Wrexham levelled after 37 when Stacey John pulled down Mariam Mahmood on the right-side of the box and Katie Barker netted from the spot.
Two minutes into the second half, City’s Aimee Deacon headed home unopposed at the near post via an Emily Thomas delivery from the right.
The hosts were back on terms on the hour, Mahmood this time nudged over from behind after racing into the penalty area. Barker netted again from 12 yards to make it 12 goals in eight matches for the summer capture from Newcastle United.
Barker could have made it a hat-trick when clean through, but Amelia Forkings denied her with a fine stop, then Ava Suckley raced into the box from the right but drilled off target,
Seven minutes from the 90, it was still was anyone’s game when the North Wales hosts edged ahead for the first time.
Hannah Snape swung over a corner from the right to the back post, Suckley nodded across goal and Lili Mai Jones scored with a marvellous header.
Sub Rosie Hughes was denied one-on-one by Forkings before the points were finally sealed six minutes into added time.
Barker worked wonders to get possession and slip a perfect pass through to Hughes, who committed the keeper, worked the ball on to her left foot and found the net to clinch a magical win.
