JD WELSH CUP 3RD ROUND: Rest of the action – wins for Rhyl 1879, Trearddur Bay, Gresford and Flint

JD WELSH CUP ROUND THREE REPORTS – NOVEMBER 22
Flint Town United 1-0 Airbus UK

Ben Wynne’s 56th minute goal decided a tie between a team next-to-bottom of the Cymru Premier and their opponents third-from-top in the league below.
Early on Tier 1 Flint threatened when a Jake Canavan corner set up Wynne for a shot which was blocked near to the goal-line.
In the 11th minute, a shot from Wynne fell to Darren Stephenson whose effort on the turn was kept out smartly by Keighan Jones.
Jack Thorn hit a right-footer just wide as the Silkmen continued to dominate.
Flint’s tall defender Isaac Lee then let fly from 20 yards, forcing Jones into a great reaction save.
As the half wore on, Tier 2 Airbus grew in confidence.
Sam Baker produced a fine mazy run but his eventual shot was comfortably held by Jack Flint.
Mason Blackwell-Jones’ cross was then fired goalwards by Danny Warren, Flint this time having to make a much better save.
Blackwell-Jones made a firm connection in the box early in the second half, but the attempt was too straight and Flint was able to gather.
Then came the goal.
Ben Wynne finished with a low drive after a nice exchange of passes with Ben Hughes.
Josh Jones should have made it 2-0, but somehow missed an empty goal.
Flashpoint in the 77th minute when Lee and Sam Rickett collided, leaving the Airbus man writhing on the ground.
A scuffle ensued which quickly calmed, but in the aftermath referee Alex Livesey showed Flint’s Harry Owen a yellow card and Wingmaker Blackwell-Jones a red for grabbing the Silkmen captain by the back of the neck.
Jones had another clear chance for Flint near the end, but this time struck the outside of the post.
Airbus assistant-manager Richard Chapman was shown a red card after the final whistle,
CPD Y Rhyl 1879 3-2 Cwmbran Town

A performance full of determination and endeavour from Rhyl 1879 saw them through after a tough struggle with Tier 3 visitors Cwmbran.
The Lilywhites had a good first half, Ben Lightfoot converting a 15th minute penalty before Jack Parry made it 2-0 on 22, James Farr with the assist.
The Crows came back strongly after the break and Jack Pewtner halved the deficit on 59 minutes.
Rhyl badly needed a third, and it came when Morgan Murray helped set up Archie Jones to find the net.
Still Cwmbran were not finished and Pewtner’s second on 79 prompted a tense finish but Rhyl held on to win and make the last 16.
Glynneath Town 2-5 Trearddur Bay

Tom Hilditch was a hat-trick hero as Trearddur Bay reached the Welsh Cup last 16 for the first time at the expense of the lowest-ranked team left in the competition, Tier 4 Glynneath.
The Neath and District Premier Division hosts took a 21st minute lead through Harri Williams Young, but Sebastian Samuel levelled on 26 via a Toby Jones assist and a Christoph Aziamale penalty edged the visitors in front before the interval.
Three minutes into the second half, it was game on when veteran David Evams made it 2-2.
Enter Hilditch, who delivered a 14-minute treble to settle the tie.
Ryan Pryce assisted for Hilditch’s first on 60 minutes before the former Porthmadog front man struck again after 72.
Hilditch then converted a penalty after 74 minutes for his third hat-trick since joining the Anglesey club, putting him on 16 goals for the campaign.
The day was slightly clouded for the Beach Boys when Pryce was shown a second yellow with 83 on the clock.
Penrhiwceiber Rangers 0-3 Gresford Athletic
Great win on the road for Gresford in what was potentially a real banana skin tie at Tier 3 high-flyers Penrhiwceiber.
Cymru North Athletic, who are rebuilding after a brief crisis, advanced to round four thanks to goals from Adam Hesp on 28 minutes, a Haci Ozlu double after 31 and 45, the latter a penalty.
Dolgellau AA 0-2 Caerau Ely
First half goals on 29 and 37 minutes from Hywel Davies and Daniel Griffiths respectively, secured the win for Cymru South favourites Caerau Ely.
Tier 3 Dolgellau put up a good show, though, the Ardal North East club having already progressed further than ever in the Welsh Cup. They can feel very proud of their effort.
