10 North Wales Goal Kings 2 – a second feature on our most prolific net-finders

Following the success of our first feature on 10 North Wales Goal Kings we’ve decided to compile another.
Imaginatively, we’ve decided to call this one 10 North Wales Goal Kings 2.
To be part of this celebration of Gogledd Cymru’s prolific hitmen, a player has to have scored 200 career goals or more and evidence of this must be provided (or found myself).
We’ll keep producing them if we can keep finding players with the magic number of goals to their credit. This could go on for some time…..hopefully.
10 NORTH WALES GOAL KINGS 2
Mike Davies – 419 goals

One of the true goal scoring legends of the 1980s, 90s and early 2000s in North Wales football.
In a career which saw him always perform at a high level, the Bangor man netted more than 400 goals across spells at Bangor City, Y Felinheli, Llanfairpwll, CPD Porthmadog, Glantraeth, Bethesda Athletic and Amlwch Town.
He raised the Welsh Alliance title with Amlwch, the NWCFA Challenge Cup at Porthmadog, who he represented in the League of Wales, and earned nine top scorer awards among his various clubs.
Born on January 30, 1970, Mike had trials at Sheffield Wednesday as a teenager before signing for Bangor City in 1987 after netting in excess of 100 goals in two seasons for the youth team.
He made a few appearances for City’s first team in the Northern Premier League, but featured mainly for the reserves, bagging 51 goals over two seasons in the Welsh Alliance.
At 19, Mike joined Y Felinheli, where he played in 1989-90 and 1990-91, notching a total of 47 goals.
Next came four-and-a-bit seasons at Llanfairpwll, where he amassed 176 goals and finished up Welsh Alliance top marksman three times.
He won the Barritt Cup, Cookson Cup and Alves Cup with the islanders.
In 1995-96, Mike’s goalscoring talents led to a move to League of Wales outfit Porthmadog.
He spent two-and-a-half seasons at Y Traeth, chalking up 53 goals and winning the North Wales Coast Challenge Cup under Colin Hawkins in 1996-97.
After beginning the 1997-98 season at Port, Mike returned to Anglesey in January, landing at Cymru Alliance club Glantraeth.
He stayed at Cae Trefdraeth for two seasons, pocketing 42 goals and ending up league leading scorer in 1998-99.
A short return to Porthmadog came in 1999-2000, Mike adding another nine goals to his career haul.
In 2000-01, the goal machine split his time between Bethesda Athletic and Bangor City Reserves, his stints bringing him a combined 15 goals.
Mike’s swansong arrived in 2001-02 when he was snapped up by Amlwch Town.
Despite only playing until December, after which he was ruled out through injury, he still contributed 26 goals as Amlwch lifted the Welsh Alliance title.
Mike also scooped the fourth Welsh Alliance top scorer title of his career.
In all, he netted more than 30 senior hat-tricks over 15 seasons.

Paul Roberts – 200+ goals

With 147 goals in the Welsh Premier alone, Paul Roberts is another goal-den great whose career tally passes well over the 200-mark and beyond.
Roberts must rate as one of the finest goalscorers ever to emerge from the Llŷn Peninsula.
Hailing from Criccieth, he sits proudly just below the top 10 Welsh Premier League marksmen of all time, having netted 147 times in 288 starts (plus 59 substitute appearances).
A former Wales Under-21 international, in 1996-97 he signed for then Football League Second Division club Wrexham, where he gained first team experience.
Born on July 29, 1977, Roberts began his career at Porthmadog in 1993 but came to prominence three years later when 11 goals in 12 matches earned him a £10,000 move to Wrexham.
Wales U21 honours followed, but he was unable to consolidate his place at the Racecourse and joined Bangor City in 1998.
Roberts was a big success at Farrar Road. He notched the only goal of the 2000 Welsh Cup final, in which the Citizens beat Cwmbran Town 1-0.
In 2002-03, the lethal striker grabbed Bangor’s famous winner from 20 yards in a 1-0 home triumph over Sartid Smederevo of Yugoslavia in the Uefa Cup.
It was City’s first win in a European game since famously beating AC Napoli 2-0 at Farrar Road in the 1962-63 Cup Winners’ Cup.
Between 1998-2006, Roberts pocketed 95 goals in 194 League of Wales outings for the all-blues before joining Rhyl for a short spell.
He returned to Bangor, adding two more goals in 14 games, bringing his Welsh Premier career tally for the club to 97. He was WPL top goal-getter for the Citizens in 1999-2000 (14 goals), 2004-05 (24) and 2005-06 (22).
Further stints with Porthmadog, Technogroup Welshpool and Newtown followed, Roberts producing a steady flow of goals before calling time on a 17-year top-flight career.
Roberts later represented Porthmadog in the Cymru Alliance and joined Welsh Alliance League club Penrhyndeudraeth, with whom he reached the FAW Trophy final in 2014-15, scoring in a 4-2 defeat to Holywell Town.
Paul won one Wales Under-21 cap, against the Netherlands in October 1996. He came on as a substitute for captain John Hartson and sitting alongside him on the bench was a certain Mr Craig Bellamy.
Les Davies – 300 + goals

A hugely popular figure in North Wales football, Les Davies netted in the region of 300 goals before retiring last season at the age of 40..
Born on October 29, 1984, the father-of-four from Maesgeirchen, Bangor, played for 12 clubs in his senior career.
After spells at Beaumaris Town, Caernarfon Town and Glantraeth, Davies was snapped up in 2003-04 by Bangor City.
At the end of 2004/05 he departed Farrar Road and spent two seasons at Porthmadog.
In the summer of 2007, Neville Powell took over as Bangor City manager and Davies was one of his first signings.
Then followed the most successful period of The Truck’s career. In eight seasons with the Citizens, he scored 76 goals in 209 starts, winning three Welsh Cups, the Welsh Premier League title and made several appearances in Europe for the all-blues.
In 2012, Davies was named in the elite 32-man list for the Best Player in Europe award, alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
At the start of 2015/16, Davies left Bangor and switched to Connah’s Quay Nomads, where he featured for two seasons, then in 2017-18 he made Bala Town his fifth WPL club.
After a season at Maes Tegid, he rejoined Bangor City – now relegated to the Cymru Alliance for the first time in their history – but returned to the national league in January 2019 when he put pen to paper for Llandudno.
Davies had signed for Aberystwyth Town in summer 2019, but before a ball was kicked he joined newly-formed Bangor 1876.
In the shortened 2019-20 season, he netted 23 goals for the undefeated Gwynedd League title-winners. He was voted Player of the Decade by viewers of S4C football programme Sgorio.
Les switched to Flint Town United for a short spell in 2020, but was back at 1876 in 2021-22.
Before his departure from Bangor 1876 in September 2023, he had scored 72 goals and been part of three successive promotions as well as lifting the Tier 4 Premier Division Cup.
Davies made Trearddur Bay the 12th club of his career in October 2023.
His debut season with Trearddur was a great success as he netted 10 goals in 29 games and won the North Wales Coast West Premier Division title in a side which went undefeated all campaign. He followed up with another 18 goals in 2024-25.
The striker’s WPL career saw him make 403 starts across six clubs, chalk up 41 substitute appearances, and net 128 goals.

Gary Bolton – 300 + goals

Retired in 2023 after a goal-packed career which saw him find the net on more than 300 occasions.
Bolton spent the last 13 years of his career with CPD Aberffraw, having previously played for a number of clubs including Bodedern, where he won the Welsh Alliance League title in 2004/05.
He clocked up a total of 304 games for Berffro, scoring no fewer than 205 times for the club.
Before his days at Aberffraw, who he joined back in 2010, Bolton had started out in the North Gwynedd and Anglesey Sunday League for Trearddur Bay in 2003.
He then signed for Bodedern in the following season, winning the Welsh Alliance there and spending four years with the first team and the Reserves.
A brief spell with Holyhead Hotspur then followed for the attacker before a season each at Cemaes Bay and Gaerwen.
Then came the start of a very special relationship with Aberffraw, where he fittingly ended a goal-packed career.
His best seasons with Aberffraw included 2013/14, when he netted 38 goals, and 2012/13, when he hit 26.
James Ryan – 209 goals (up to and including Oct 25, 2025)

Reached 200 career goals after scoring for Caergybi in a 6-1 victory against Holyhead Town last season.
James, 38, who hails from Valley, only began playing local football in 2016-17 after leaving the Army.
Since then, he has hit 121 goals for Caergybi, 74 in a Bryngwran Bulls shirt, eight in Holyhead Town colours, four during a brief spell at Glantraeth and two this season for latest club CPD Cefni.
James’ career highlight to date is the 72 goals he amassed for Caergybi in 2018-19, which won him the Bob Brodie Trophy for the highest marksman on Ynys Môn.
It was a record total for winning the trophy at the time and came the season after he finished second in the table after bagging 54 for Bryngwran.
James has reached double figures in each season he has completed, except 2021-22.

Kevin Lloyd – 200+ goals (up to and including November 8, 2025)

While we’ve been unable to confirm Lloyd’s career goals total, we can comfortably rubber-stamp it as more than 200.
Born on August 14, 1989, Kevin is still banging in the goals for Llanrug United at the age of 36, having already scored 13 times this season.
His current grand tally for Llanrug (mainly first team but a few for the development side) is 134 goals, while he has netted 43 times across three spells at Caernarfon Town.
Kevin’s best haul in a single season is the 29 he bagged for Llanrug in 2013-14 when the club landed the prestigious FAW Trophy.
When winning the Welsh Alliance League with at Llangefni Town in 2018-19, he notched in the region of 20 goals, but we don’t have the exact number.
As a teenager, Kevin was top marksman for Felinheli in 2004-05 and Bontnewydd in 2006/07. No figures are available, but with 206 goals confirmed so far, his achievements at the aforementioned village clubs should take him to at least around the 250-mark.
In 2007/08, Kevin played for Llangefni Town in their one and only Welsh Premier League season and pocketed eight goals.
The following season, Nev Powell signed him for Bangor City and he scored once in the WPL, a 1-1 draw against Caernarfon Town, and more famously twice as a sub in a 3-1 League Cup quarter-final triumph over Rhyl at Farrar Road.
He has won Cymru Alliance crowns with Llangefni and Caernarfon, where he was also part of the 2012-13 treble-winning squad, including the FAW Trophy, under Lee Dixon.

Alan Mark Owen – 200 + goals

Born on January 21, 1992, “Blacks” is another striker we can confidently describe as in “well beyond the 200 goals category”.
Like with Kevin Lloyd, a large chunk of his goals were compiled during several seasons at Llanrug, for whom he has rattled up a total of 96.
During his time at Eithin Duon, he won the Mawddach Cup and was named Player of the Season in 2015-16.
Back in 2013-14, Alan joined Caernarfon Town and had some first team opportunities as well as finishing top-scorer for the reserves side which won their league.
In 2018-19, he hit 19 goals for a Llangefni Town side crowned Welsh Alliance League champions, playing alongside the aforementioned Lloyd up front.
A powerful and skilful striker, he has always been a reliable goal-getter and despite his current club Gwalchmai struggling, Alan is still regularly hitting the back of the net.
Aside from his football abilities, Alan has also enjoyed success as a boxer and MMA competitor.

Owain Williams – 207 goals

Just over a year ago, Owain Williams reached 200 career goals after scoring for Llanuwchllyn Reserves in a 4-1 defeat at Colwyn Bay Under-21s.
He added another six goals before announcing he was hanging up his boots at the end of the 2024-25 season at the age of 40.
However, I spied with my little eye a certain evergreen O Williams getting on the scoresheet for Llanuwchllyn’s first team in their 9-0 win at Lex XI – five minutes after coming on as a late second-half substitute – on November 1.
So is the story over?
Whatever happens, Owain can look back on a great career where he also played for Dolgellau, Bala Town, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Barmouth and Dyffryn.
He fondly remember scoring on his senior debut as a 16-year-old for Dolgellau Reserves when a cross came from the right and he connected with a first time volley across his body which flew to the top corner.
More memories to come?

Gareth Davies – 250-300 goals (approx)

Although he celebrated his 40th birthday in April, celebrated North Wales striker Gareth Davies had retired from football many years before.
But what a mark he made – grabbing in the region of 250-300 career goals and a host of trophies and medals.
The former Bethesda Athletic, Glantraeth, Beaumaris and Caernarfon Town front man called it a day in the early 2010s at the age of 26.
Perhaps Gareth is best known as part of a relentless goal-getting duo alongside Richie Owen in the Bethesda team of 2008-09 which stormed to the Welsh Alliance League title by a record 19-point margin under manager Chris O’Neal.
Owen notched a remarkable 47 league goals and 59 in all competitions with partner up front Davies bagging 31 in the Welsh Alliance and 43 in total.
Athletic were promoted to the second-tier Cymru Alliance and finished an excellent ninth out of 17.
However, at the end of the 2009-10 season, half of the Cymru Alliance – including Bethesda – were relegated due to a restructuring of the Welsh football pyramid.
Gareth will always have fond memories of that season, however, as he lifted a player of the month award and was second highest scorer behind the league’s record marksman, Shaun Beck of Flint Town United.
A non-stop goalscorer as a junior, netting 85 in one season, Gareth started out with Caernarfon Town Reserves as a senior at 16, going on to represent the first team a year later when Adie Jones and Waynne Phillips managed the League of Wales side.
Gareth then joined Anglesey club Beaumaris Town, scoring more than 100 goals there, but also signed second forms for Bryan Owen at Llangefni Town.
The striker later had a spell with Glantraeth, being part of their 2005-06 Cymru Alliance league and cup double winning-squad under Paul Whelan, although he did not finish the season with the Bodorgan-based outfit, opting to return to Beaumaris.
He next joined Bethesda, where he won trophies galore and piled up more than 100 goals, then ended his playing days under Chris Roberts at Glantraeth before hanging up his boots aged just 26.
Hard-working with a talent for scoring spectacular goals, Gareth Davies made a considerable contribution to North Wales football over his 10-year playing career and he is still talked about with awe among today’s fans.
Jonathan Sadler 200+ goals

Born on October 30, 1985, Sadler was at Llanrug United between 2014-15 and 2024-25, scoring a total of 162 goals.
Before that, he was a prolific marksman for Caernarfon Wanderers in their all-too-short but successful existence between 2007-12.
Sadler was top scorer when Wanderers won the Caernarfon and District League Division One title in 2008-09 and headed the Gwynedd League scoring chart in 2009-10.
He netted bucketloads for Wanderers. match reports from the 2008-09 season crediting him bagging twos, threes and fours and fives in numerous games, so he flies past the 200 mark and the actual figure is probably 300 and well beyond.
Previous clubs also include Porthmadog, Felinheli and Llanberis – he really could have scored any amount of goals. I wanted to find out a lot more about him before publishing, but maybe we can do that at another time.
If anyone can help us with Jonny’s goals record please get in touch.
