Let’s celebrate 10 North Wales football goal kings!

It’s about time to celebrate our North Wales goal kings again!
Here are some profiles of just a few of our net-busters extraordinaire.
This feature dates back as far as the 1980s only and mainly focuses on North Wales Coast players and none from North East Wales, where historically, I have personally found information to be very limited.
I’ve asked one or two players from the North East if they know their career goals tallies and they didn’t have any idea.
That’s fine, record-keeping is not for everyone, sometimes the best memories are kept in the head.
If there is anyone who can provide information on North East Wales goal machines, mainly since the 1980’s, then I’d be delighted to hear from you.
It would be great to compile a whole separate feature on the NE goal greats.
For instance, Shaun Beck, formerly of Flint Town United, is often referred to as the Cymru Alliance record scorer and surely more than merits a place on this list, but I cannot find any stats.
This is just a SAMPLE of the most prolific scorers in North Wales, not a definitive list. I definitely want to do more of these features.

Euryn Williams – 683 goals

Formed Bro Cernyw FC in 1990 and went on to score a phenomenal 683 goals over 16 seasons for the club in the Vale of Conwy and Clwyd leagues.
Williams regularly topped the 50-goal mark in a campaign and was highly respected not just for his playing ability but his sporting approach to the game.
Legend Williams once scored 12 times in a 15-1 defeat of Blaenau Ffestiniog.
Although with Bro Cernyw for the majority of his career, he also played for Llanrwst United.
His daughter Fflur, 24, is a regular goalscorer for CPDM Y Felinheli.
Corrig McGonigle – 451 goals

From Llansadwrn, Ynys Môn, 28-year-old McGonigle reached the 450 career goals landmark in CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876’s 6-1 win over Y Felinheli on November 1.
Corrig, who joined 1876 in 2021-22, is also the club’s all-time highest marksman on 148 goals from 135 league and cup appearances.
He was Ardal North West leading net-finder in 2022-23 with 37 league goals – double the amount any other player managed.

The islander is a two-time past winner of the Bob Brodie Trophy for the most goals scored in Anglesey football. He pocketed 64 for Pentraeth in 2015-16 (then a BB record) and 59 in Glantraeth colours in 2016-17.

He has played at all levels of the Welsh football pyramid, including a spell at Porthmadog in the Cymru Premier in 2009/10.

Marc Lloyd Williams – 400+ (estimate)

Is the Cymru Premier’s all-time highest scorer with 319 goals, but played in a few other leagues during his career.
Very difficult to even estimate how many in total he has scored, there will be numerous cup goals for Welsh Premier teams on top of the league ones.
Has also represented the likes of Colwyn Bay, Southport, York City and Halifax Town outside of the Welsh system, although he was not a prolific marksman for any of those aftermentioned clubs.
Netted a record 47 in a season Welsh Premier goals in 2001-02, bagging 66 in all competitions in that campaign. He was also the highest scorer in all European leagues, but did not win the European Golden Boot as the Welsh Premier League had a lower co-efficient than some of Europe’s bigger leagues.
Andy Clarke – 363 goals

Regular goalscorer over a number of seasons representing numerous clubs mainly in the Bangor and Anglesey areas.
Is on 10 for the current campaign with his latest club Aberffraw, who look like strong contenders for the North Wales Coast West Division One title.
Andy’s teams over the years include Glantraeth, Y Felinheli, Llanberis, Beaumaris Town, Bethesda Athletic, Arriva Bangor, Maes-y-Bryn and Menai Bridge Tigers.
Has won many Gwynedd and Anglesey league cups since he began playing, as well as the Welsh Alliance Division Two League and Cup double with Glantraeth in 2011/12. Glan top-scorer in 2024-25.

Sion Parry – 342 goals

Legend of Llanystumdwy, where he played and managed before retiring through injury last season.
Natural marksman who averaged more than a goal a game throughout his career – 342 goals, 314 matches.
Claimed the Gwynedd League Golden Boot for four seasons in a row between 2014-15 and 2017-18.
Perhaps Sion’s finest moment was his hat-trick to win the NWCFA Intermediate Challenge Cup for Llanystumdwy in a 3-0 victory over Llandudno Albion in May 2016.
Signed for newly-formed Bangor 1876 in January 2020 and was part of the invincible Gwynedd League title-winning squad.
Now manages the ever-improving Llanystumdwy women’s team.

Meilir Williams – 340 goals

North Wales football’s leading marksman in 2024-25 with 49 goals for Tier 3 Ardal North East club Llanuwchllyn.
Passed the 100-goal mark for Llan earlier this season and has now netted more times for that club than any other he has played for.
Has spent the vast majority of his career in and around Tier 3 level. Meilir will be 29 later this month.
Was crowned Ardal North East Player of the Season for 2024-25. Topped a highly competitive Welsh Alliance goalscorers chart in 2018-19 with 28 goals.

Gruff John – 246 goals

All hail Mr CPD Y Felinheli!
Gruff, 34, is the club’s all-time top scorer with 246 goals compiled over many loyal seasons at Cae Seilo.
Gruff has been part of all Felinheli’s successes over the past two decades, including scoring a hat-trick in the 2013-14 NWCFA Junior Cup final, which saw the late Euron Davies’ side beat Aberffraw 6-1 and make it back-to-back successes in the competition.
There was also the Gwynedd League title win of 2015-16, being crowned Welsh Alliance Division Two champions in 2019-20 and lifting Take Stock Van Hire Challenge Cup in 2018-19.
Matthew Jones – 225 goals

This 31-year-old has been a really consistent goalscorer on Ynys Môn and beyond over many seasons.
His grand total is probably a few more than 225 as not all of his very early senior career stats are available.
His best season was 2016-17 when he finished joint-second in the Bob Brodie Trophy table after scoring 37 goals for Welsh Alliance side Llangefn Town, for whom he has netted more than 100 times in total.
Also had four fine seasons with Llannerchymedd, winning the Gwynedd League title in 2013-14 and registering 84 goals in all for the tan Parc club.
In 2021-22, he pocketed 18 goals for a Porthmadog side which earned promotion back to the Cymru North following a play-off.
Still banging them in for Menai Bridge Tigers in Tier 4.
