Great to see Yasmin back playing football – happy birthday!

Happy birthday to an accomplished North Wales goalkeeper who recently returned to the game.

Yasmin Mills is 29 today.

After a long injury lay-off she is back playing football in the North Wales Women’s Recreational League for Kinmel Bay.

So far, she has operated as a goalkeeper and also outfield, scoring from a cracking free kick in Bay’s 4-2 win against Conwy Borough on Monday.

That result delivered Kinmel Bay’s recreational side their first victory and they remain unbeaten after four games.

Born on October 31, 1996, Yasmin Danielle Mills is one of three footballing sisters.

Ashleigh, a British Army officer based in Oxfordshire, plays for Southampton Women’s FC, while Jess signed for Llandudno this season. Both girls are also ex-Rhyl players.

Eldest sister Yasmin first became a goalkeeper in about 2011. Her team at the time had no-one to take the gloves so she volunteered – it turned out she was more than useful.

Previously a player with Kinmel Bay and Welsh Warriors in street football, Yasmin first came to prominence with the Rhyl and Prestatyn team which won the North Wales League in 2013.

The team later changed its name to Rhyl Ladies, competing in the Welsh Premier Women’s League, and Yasmin adjusted to the top flight brilliantly, becoming highly-respected for her superb saves and brave performances.

She was named Players’ Player of the Year for Rhyl in 2016-17.

Yasmin later joined the newly-formed NFA and continued to be an outstanding performer in Tier 3.

Unfortunately, she suffered a bad knee injury early in the 2022 NWCFA Challenge Cup Final at Prestatyn against Llandudno and that signalled a long absence from competitive action.

It has been great to see her back in the Recreational League this season and hopefully she can keep playing for as long as possible.

Brave, agile, competitive and a winner – that’s how Yasmin Mills will always be remembered as a goalkeeper and player.

Have a great birthday!
