Joy for Amber Brown

Amber Brown continued her amazing start to the season with a 90th minute winner which put Llangefni Town joint top of the table.

Having netted back-to-back hat-tricks in her previous two games, the 18-year-old dazzler again proved the difference in a close-fought match between two sides expected to figure high in the standings this campaign.

NFA have strengthened considerably since town neighbours Rhyl 1879 women folded at the start of the season.

Numerous Tier 2 players have switched from Belle Vue to the Ffordd Derwen outfit, including club record-scorer Sade Benjamin, midfield ace Rachael Thomas, defensive colossus Cassandra Thomas, plus the experienced Saskia Wynne-Thomas, Alicia Duke and Sophie Haywood.

NFA were top of the table last weekend after beating back-to-back champions Pwllheli, so Cefni knew they were in for a tough test.

Cassie Thomas (lilac) had a great game for NFA, as did Llangefni captain Ellie Coulson (blue)

On this day the Rhyl side pushed Llangefni hard, goalkeeper Courtney Ingram outstanding with Cassie Thomas typically rock-solid at the back.

Courtney Ingram stood out between the posts for NFA

A delighted Llangefni manager Dan Gregg said after the game: “Brilliant game of football. Probably the best game I’ve been involved in for a long time. Both teams so good., evenly matched, a credit to women’s football. Amber’s bit of magic won it in the end.

“Courtney in goal for NFA was absolutely incredible.

“Milly Lowe probably changed the game for us. Cassandra had a fantastic game at the back for NFA and was kept busy all game by (attackers) Ellie Coulson, Amber and Lowri Thomas, but when Milly came on with fresh legs she just stretched the back 4 even more.”

Amber Brown is a special talent

The deciding goal came when Brown received the ball on the left side of the box. With most probably expecting a square pass to sub Milly Lowe in the middle, Brown went for goal and beat goalkeeper Ingram at her near post.”
