Saeed Jones and Adam Cassidy both scored twice as Prestatyn Wanderers advanced to the second round of the Junior Challenge Cup at the expense of Anglesey visitors Llangoed.
The islanders are leaders of North Wales Coast West Division One and were expected to provide the Wanderers with a big test.
The home side entered the tie in good spirits having earned their first win of the season the previous weekend in a league game at Blue Bridge.
Wanderers pushed hard from the start, not allowing their opponents to settle, and the hosts were 2-0 up inside eight minutes through a Saeed Jones double, assists from Kyle Mottley and Adam Cassidy.
Jones opened the scoring with a bullet header and soon followed up by poaching a second.
It was not long before Llangoed opened their account, a mistimed back-pass from Jack Gibbon putting Marquis Holland through to finish one-on-one with keeper Gareth Hastie.
In the 20th minute Wanderers were awarded a penalty and spot-kick specialist Cassidy applied a typical deadly finish.
Llangoed had defender Aaron Evans sent off after 35 minutes for a second yellow card and it got worse still for the visitors in first half added time when Nathan Rowan made it 4-1.
On the hour the sides were evened up when Saeed Jones received a red card.
The cards were now flowing as much as the goals and the Ynys Môn outfit pulled one back on 71 when sub and new signing Ifan Kolkowicz struck after Holland set him up.
Wanderers went 5-2 in front when Cassidy grabbed his second of the game on 83 minutes, Dougie Lonsdale with the assist.
Almost immediately, Llion Alan Roberts notched a third for Llangoed, Kolkowicz this time the supplier.
However, Wanderers saw the tie out to book their place in round two.
Mottley and Rowan shared the man of the match award for the hosts, who were good value for their win.
