There were wins for Saltney Town, FC Queen’s Park and Penyffordd Lions in the NEWFA Men’s Senior Challenge Cup on Tuesday evening.
After netting for the reserves at the weekend, Saltney’s Alfie Harrington made the most of his first team opportunity by scoring twice in a 2-0 success at Rhydymwyn.
Harrington found the net on 55 and 84 minutes to guide the Bordermen into the next round.
All the goals came in the second half as Queen’s Park triumphed in this Wrexham-area derby,
Bazza Torrence made the breakthrough for the visitors in the 50th minute.
Ethan Simpson doubled the lead on 72, and although Joe Colley pulled one back for the hosts after 62, James Gregory sealed an away win by making it 3-1 on 84.
Jordan Williams supplied assists for the first and third Park goals.
A pair of late goals made it three away victories in the cup on Tuesday evening.
Brandon Jones edged Penyffordd in front on 18 minutes, but Luca Nardo levelled after 44 to make it all-square at the break.
There were no further goals until the 83rd minute when Jones bagged his second for the Lions.
And five minutes into added time, captain Marcus Davies rounded off a fine display by adding a goal to the two assists he provided.
