Women’s football round-up: Pwllheli lose league game for first time since 2023

Amy Chesters (mixed blue kit) scored for Kinmel Bay in a 3-1 win over Pwllheli

Pwllheli’s women lost their first league match in more than two seasons when they went down 3-1 at Kinmel Bay this afternoon.

The result brought to an end a 32-game unbeaten run in the league for the Llyn Peninsula side, who are back-to-back Tier 3 champions.

Not since a 1-0 defeat at CPDM Bangor on March 26, 2023, had Pwll lost a league fixture.

However, that all changed when Kinmel Bay caused a surprise on the opening day of the new North Wales Coast Women’s League campaign.

Goals from Jess Jones, Lexi Walsh and Amy Chesters clinched the points for the home side, Jini Owen Hughes replying with a penalty for Pwll.

Elsewhere, CPDM Llanystumdwy beat Trearddur Bay 3-1, Angharad Perry, Kate Davies and Annest Roberts (penalty) with the home goals, Angharad Price-Evans replying.

And on their return to Tier 3, NFA had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Caernarfon Town.

Elan Evans handed the Cofis a ninth-minute lead, but Rachael Thomas, who signed for the Rhyl-based club this week, equalised after 78.

ADRAN PREMIER

Wrexham recovered from two goals down to thrash Briton Ferry Llansawel 5-2 and get new head coach Jenny Sugarman’s reign off to a flyer.

Goals from Jade Crofts after six minutes and Megan Kearle on 32 put Ferry in seeming command, but new signing Mariam Mahmood pulled one back before half time.

In the second half the visitors were unstoppable, Ava Suckley and Katie Barker putting them ahead before the hour, then Natalie Clark and sub Rosie Hughes adding further goals before the end.

GENERO ADRAN TROPHY

Flint Town United’s new signing Becca Eagles made a stunning impact on her debut with two goals – including a 92nd minute winner as the Silkwomen beat Llanfair United 3-2 at the Essity Stadium.

Eagles edged Flint ahead on six minutes, Sioned Roberts levelled on 29, but Rosie Hughes restored the home lead four minutes into the second half.

Sophie Cook made it two-apiece on 79, but Eagles bagged the decider from a Taylia Chaloner assist.

Also in Group 4, CPDM Bangor beat Llangefni Town 1-0 thanks to an 18th minute goal from Menna Evans,

In Group 3, skipper Polly Wild McGregor notched the only goal in Connah’s Quay Nomads’ 1-0 success at Berriew.

Llandudno returned from CPDM Y Felinheli as 2-1 winners, Olivia Rigby and Jasmin Dutton with the away goals, Katie Midwinter having brought the hosts level on 58 minutes.
