Evergreen Meinir Thomas continues her football career at Trearddur Bay

When Amlwch Town Ladies football team folded this summer Meinir Thomas had a decision to make.
A loyal Amlwch player of many years standing, would the evergreen Meinir finally hang up her boots or carry on playing?
Thankfully, she chose the latter and has signed for Ynys Môn club Trearddur Bay for the campaign ahead.
She made her debut last Sunday and scored in a pre-season friendly against Denbigh Town.
Mainly a midfield player, but always adaptable, Meinir was a true Amlwch stalwart, winning the North Wales Supplementary Cup with the islanders in 2018-19 and the North Wales League Division Two title the following season. She has also represented Ynys Môn at the International Island Games.
Anyone who knows Meinir will be well aware that football is not the only sport which benefits from her skills and wisdom.
After returning to competitive sport in 2017 following many years break raising a family with husband Kev, mother-of-three Meinir has gone on to represent Wales many times at hockey.
Last year she was selected for the Wales Masters Over-55’s Hockey squad to compete at three major events – the Home Nations in Nottingham, 4 nations tournament in Germany and the World Cup in New Zealand.
Previously, Meinir was a regular for the Wales Masters O50’s. She went to the Home Nations in Swansea and World Cup in Barcelona in 2018. The following year, she went to the Home Nations in Southgate and was awarded Most Improved Player of the Tournament. She later competed in the European Championship in Krefeld, Germany.
In 2022, she captained Wales versus Scotland, went to the World Cup in Cape Town and was awarded Player of the Match there for the game v Germany.
She was selected again for the O55’s in 2023, playing the Home Nations in Glasgow and European Championship in Valencia, and was awarded POTM v Spain and Player of the Tournament.
