Mixed fortunes for giant-killers in JD Welsh Cup first round draw
Underdogs Broughton United and Sychdyn United experienced mixed fortunes in tonight JD Welsh Cup first round draw.
North East Wales League Division 1 Broughton, who knocked out Tier 3 giants Corwen on Saturday, have landed what looks like a winnable tie at home to fellow T4 outfit Welshpool Town of the Central Wales Northern Division.
Meanwhile Tier 5 Sychdyn of North East Wales Division 2, conquerors of Tier 3 Lex XI in the previous stage. must travel to Tier 2 Cymru North Penrhyncoch in the first round proper.
Elsewhere in tonight’s draw, a tale of two cities was set up as St Asaph City and CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876, both of Tier 3 Ardal North West, were paired together.
One of the most attractive ties promises to be the battle at Y Traeth between the illustrious Porthmadog, who have a 100 percent record in Ardal North West, and Denbigh Town of the Cymru North, quarter-finalists in 2024-25.
And CPD Y Rhyl 1879 of the Cymru North can expect a tricky assignment when they visit Tier 3 Pwllheli.
All ties will take place on the weekend of September 19-21.
