Despite a much-improved batting display all-round Colwyn Bay suffered a three-wicket home defeat off the last ball on Saturday.
Put into bat at Penrhyn Avenue, the Bay posted a very decent 240-6 declared off 52.2 overs, Sagar Trivedi best with 53, Dan Russell 51, skipper George Johansen 40 not out and Charlie Collins 32.
In reply, Rainford batted pretty well all down the card and reached 244-7 off 48 from the final delivery of the match , Matthew Bailey 69. with Dulanjala Mendis picking up 3-72 and Trivedi 3-76 for the hosts, who lost out 20-8 on points.
James Hurlin led the way with a magnificent 83 and a six-wicket haul as Northop Hall proudly claimed top spot in the Second Division with a 118-run thrashing of visitors Parkfield.
Invited to bat, Hall were in early trouble on 55-4, but recovered to amass 228-6 declared off 53 overs.
Hurlin’s knock included eight fours, and he shared in a fifth-wicket partnership of 85 with skipper Ben Slater, who made 51, and then a further stand of 77 with Carwyn Johnson (40 not out).
Parkfield were sent packing for just 110, Hurlin completing a wonderful display with 6-27 off 13, Johnson bagging 2-30 and Paul Jenkins 2-52.
Gareth Leonard hit 38 and Benjamin Hughes 32 as Prestatyn set 190-8 off 60 overs after being inserted by the opposition, who responded with a winning 193-3 Shonak Harsh 83 and Eranda Semage 73 not out.
Deciding to bat after winning the toss, Northop Hall seconds could only manage a paltry 69 not out, Adil Awan 6-16 and Adam Dunsmore 4-25 for the hosts, who eased to 74 without loss in 7.5 overs, Basweer Mohammed 50 not out for a 25-0 points verdict.
Sam Roberts took 5-55, Will Spillane 2-11 and Shay Williams 2-24 as Bay dismissed ORT for 130 and then reached the winning post at 134-5, skipper Tom Roberts 42.
The home side chalked up a winning score of 228-6 declared, Ashley Jones 3-26 and Steven Edwards 3-71 for Prestatyn seconds, who were then bowled out for 144, Niladri Dutta 37.
