Farewell for now to Caergybi FC – let’s celebrate a club that’s achieved plenty

Caergybi FC has announced it will be taking a break from football for the 2025-26 season.

The Tier 5 club finished runners-up in North Wales Coast West Division One and lifted the Menai Tractors Cup last term, but heading towards the current campaign a lack of players has forced the Holyhead-based outfit to fold for the time being.

A club statement said: “It is with regret that Caergybi will be taking a year out and folding for the upcoming season due to lack of a team and struggling to get lads in

“We have lost a lot of players at the start of the pre-season and we were short towards the end of last year so we are left with no choice but to make this decision.

“We will take the year to rebuild behind the scenes and come back stronger. We finish on a high, finishing second in the league and league cup winners but unfortunately this is out of our control and is a must.

“We would like to thank all the players for all their hard work over the past 9 years and for all the memories – we have had a great time and won lots of things.

“We would also like to thank all the committee and people behind the scenes for all your efforts

“And finally, all our sponsors from over the years. Without you guys we would never have been able to do it so thank you all

“You will see us again but for this season it’s not to be.”

Formed in 2017, Caergybi lifted the Megan Cup in 2017-18, the Lucas Oil Cup and Dargie Cup in 2018-19 and the Menai Tractors Division One Cup in 2024-25.

Last season also saw them reach the NWCFA Junior Challenge Cup final for the first time, losing to Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs.

GREATEST PERFORMANCE?

Caergybi 3 Cefn Albion 0 (FAW Amateur Trophy – Sep 3, 2022)
Huge shock in the Welsh Trophy and surely Caergybi’s best result?
Fifth in tier 5 beating the top of tier 3 was some achievement for the Millbank heroes.
Cefn Albion had won the Trophy back in 2018-19 and were top of Ardal North East and unbeaten.
What’s more, they came to Caergybi in the Welsh Cup a season before and won 4-1.
However, goals from Louis Chapman (2) and Tom Hadley produced a monster upset.
