Corwen Reserves celebrate winning the NEWFA Reserve Cup

NEWFA RESERVE CUP FINAL 2024-25

Corwen Reserves 2
Mynydd Isa Reserves 1

Corwen Reserves ended the club quadruple dream of Mynydd Isa by lifting the NEWFA Reserve Cup at Airbus on Saturday.

With the first team having landed the Premier Division and Premier Cup trophies and the Reserves crowned Group A champions, the four-timer was on for Isa, but it was not to be.

Nonetheless, a fantastic season for the Flintshire village club.

Corwen started the final well, but it was Mynydd Isa that had the first goal scoring opportunity; however goalkeeper Rhys Wear was able to dive low to make a save.

The deadlock was broken in the 22nd minute, when a corner was whipped into the Isa box, where Alfie Low knocked the ball on to Harry Pooler, who headed home to give Corwen the lead.

Mynydd Isa looked for an equaliser when a Oliver Howarth corner caused a scramble in the Corwen box but the danger was averted.

On the brink of half time it was 2-0.

Benjamin Wilson-Davies played a great low ball to Lewis Wills, who had a brilliant first touch which allowed him to get through on goal, where he slotted beyond advancing goalkeeper George Phillips and into the bottom corner to double Corwen’s advantage.

After the interval George Davies whipped a shot at the Corwen goal, which bounced in front of Wear, who was able to push the ball away.

With five minutes to play Joshua Holmes went on a long run with the ball before unleashing a shot, which was saved by Wear.

Mynydd Isa set up a grandstand finish with two minutes of the 90 left.

Cameron Anderson played the ball onto Joseph Liptrot in a crowded box, whose shot may have taken a deflection off a defender before spinning into the back of the net.

Deep into stoppage time Mynydd had a chance for an equaliser, but Jack Casey could only lift his shot over the crossbar.

Congratulations Corwen – NEWFA Reserve Cup winners 2024-25.
