GENERO ADRAN PREMIER – MARCH 9

Cardiff City 1 (Billingham 31)
Wrexham 2 (Suckley 40, Iddenden 56)

And that completes the set!

After putting Swansea City and The New Saints firmly in their place in recent weeks, Wrexham achieved the biggest feat of all by smashing the Cardiff City jinx.

Since being promoted to the Adran Premier last season, Steve Dale’s side had lost all eight meetings with the Iain Darbyshire’s blues.

Today, however, the rejuvenated Dragons breathed more fire than ever as they picked up maximum points in the capital.

Once more, it was the stars of the moment, Ava Suckley and Abbie Iddenden, who delivered the all-important goals.

Wrexham have now won six games on the bounce and are undefeated in seven.

The visitors made a promising start at Cardiff International Sports Stadium, with Carra Jones forcing Ceryn Chamberlain into an early stop.

Lili Jones then fed a brilliant pass to Iddenden, but Chamberlain was quick to snuff out the danger.

Nat Clark saw a strong header saved by Chamberlain before Cardiff took the lead on 31 minutes, Lily Billingham unleashing a powerful effort from distance which nestled in the corner of the net.

Undeterred, Wrexham kept attacking and on 40 minutes levelled when Suckley applied a calm finish after nicely linking up with Iddenden for her eighth goal in six matches.

After the restart, the hosts went close when Billingham’s powerful effort smacked the post.

However, Wrexham struck next on 56 minutes when Iddenden slotted home after her initial shot hit the post.

The champions, looking to avoid their first defeat since December, pushed for an equaliser with Fiona Barry denied twice by Liz Craven.

But it was Wrexham who held on for a famous victory.

The North Walians enjoy a perfect record in the Genero Adran Premier Championship Conference ahead of next week’s Bute Energy Welsh Cup Semi Final against Pontypridd United.

Wrexham AFC: Liz Craven, Erin Lovett (Rebecca Pritchard 90), Katie Sharp, Keren Allen (C) (Phoebe Davies 74), Amber Lightfoot, Lili Jones, Nat Clark, Carra.Jones, Brooke Cairns (Mari Gibbard 74), Ava Suckley (Rosie Hughes 82), Abbie Iddenden.
