Flint Town United 2 (Hastings 40, R Hughes 59)

Both sides could take many positives out of Sunday’s derby.

Nomads proved once more they have the staying power to win big games and are worthy leaders of the Genero Adran North.

Tier 2 newcomers Flint pushed their much more experienced opponents all the way, showed they belong at this level and displayed a tremendous togetherness and team spirit.

The fact Nomads were so relieved to get over the line is a compliment to Flint.

I thought Flint would go with a game plan of trying to nullify what we do consistently. They sat in a lower block, caused us a couple of issues, one of them led to their goal in transition.

They had their threats to be fair, and they’re a good side. It is derby day, but there are some good people at that club and I hope they go and do well, until they’re playing us obviously.

Credit to a side that’s stepped up.. That’s what I want, I want the North to get better, to keep pushing this group.

On Nomads’ performance

We were fantastic today in large periods of the game, but I think it should have been put to bed in the first half.

Our end product today wasn’t good enough. it’s something the players know, they don’t need to go hell for leather, they know themselves, but to get a last-minute winner, this is what this team’s about, it’s fantastic, the attitude, the application, the commitment.

I’m just not surprised (where we are). It’s good habits that they’ve got themselves into, a never give in attitude.

On match-winner Aimee Redfern

Aimee’s a leader, she sets an example, you don’t need to wear the armband to be a leader. She’s certainly one of them, she’s got a good attitude, applied to it all, coming off the bench today, it’s not the first time she’s done that to great effect.

To get a set piece like that, a well-worked routine, she came up top trumps for us today, I’m extremely pleased, thank God she got the winner for us to get the three points.

Oli Williams – Flint Town United

We knew today’s game would be tough as Connah’s Quay have a lot of quality in their squad but as a newly promoted side we have come away to the team that will most probably win the league and were within seconds away from taking something from the game.

First half we must give credit to Connah’s Quay. They put us under pressure and caused us loads of problems.

At half time we changed a few things and in the second half we were much better, and started to look like the team I want us to be.

Second half we were really good and I think the scenes when they scored their 3rd goal shows how difficult we made it for them today.

We are still at the beginning of our journey and will only improve week on week, I am really happy with the direction we are going in as a team.

We have to learn from today, take confidence from our second half performance and be ready to take on Felinheli next week.
