Two of the most prolific marksmen in North Wales football took centre stage at the Bangor City Stadium tonight.

Corrig McGonigle struck twice in the first period to give 1876 a 2-0 lead, but Jamie Breese hit back with a goal in each half to earn a point for the Wellmen.

Very unusually, 1876’s all-time record goal-getter McGonigle – current total 129 – had not found the net in six matches, but this evening he returned with a vengeance to register his ninth and 10th of the season.

The deadlock was broken after 14 minutes when the Anglesey-based front man applied an exquisite finish from 20 yards.

In the 23rd minute, McGonigle anticipated a back-pass, nicked the ball and rounded the keeper before netting calmly.

Holywell pulled one back after 38, Morgan Murray delivering a good cross which Breese converted at the near post.

Town threatened early in the second half when Beau Cornish’s effort was well saved by keeper Bradley Farrar.

It was all-square in the 68th minute. Breese chased a ball over the defence, chipped the oncoming keeper and found the empty net for his 16th goal this term.

Breese has now notched six goals in his last four Holywell appearances.

Both sides had chances to win it, Mason Blackwell-Jones and Dale Davies going close for the hosts, Macauley Taylor, Jake Cooke, Cornish and Murray for the travellers.

Sam Baker’s double secured a sixth straight league win for Airbus, who have a seven-point lead at the summit tonight.

The Wingmakers took an 18th minute lead when Joe Palmer played a great ball into Baker, whose first touch was brilliant and he applied a fine finish past keeper Lewis Dutton.

Jordan Evans’ curling effort clipped the bar before Gresford striker Dave Forbes forced a superb double save from Keighan Jones.

Plenty of work to do for Mark Allen’s side in the second half, with Athletic putting up a good show.

Dutton tipped over an Ollie Lanceley attempt early in the second half before the lead was doubled with 61 gone, Evans beautifully setting up Baker for his 14th goal of the campaign.

Gresford had Forbes sent off on 89 for a second yellow card.
