NEWFA WOMEN’S CHALLENGE CUP REPORTS – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29

Llandudno 9 (E Jones 21, 37, 45+3, 45+4; K Davies 41, 64 & 85; Jarvis-Evans 22, Rigby 83)
Kinmel Bay 2 (Perry 45+2, McEvoy 73)

Ella Jones scored four and Kelsey Davies a hat-trick as Llandudno rattled up nine against a Kinmel Bay side who were missing their regular goalkeeper.

After a goalless opening 20 minutes at Go Goodwins Stadium, Ella Jones broke the deadlock following an assist by Rebecca Jarvis Evans, who scored the second herself seconds later, Davies setting her up.

Ella Jones made it 3-0 on 37 and Davies opened her account on 41, Erin Doran with the assist.

Lucy Perry replied for the visitors from a Georgia Williams assist, but before the break Ella Jones scored twice more to make it eight goals in her last four matches.

She also equalled the feat of Chelsea’s Cole Palmer this weekend with a first-half quadruple.

After the break, Davies made it 7-1 on 64, keeper Megan Robinson supplying the through ball, but Bay battled on and young Lexie McEvoy hit back for them after 73.

Sub Olivia Rigby, 16, notched her first Llandudno goal before Davies completed her hat-trick late on and boosted her season’s tally to nine.

Llandudno kicked off into the wind in the first half and in the first 15 minutes managed to miss several one-on-ones and put a few other glorious chances either wide or high over the bar, not making the goalkeeper work.

The deadlock was finally broken by Ella on 22 minutes after great work on the right by Becky. No sooner after kick off Kelsey raced clear on the left and teed it up on a plate for Becky to make it 2-0.

Ella in the 37th minute created her own chance by challenging for the ball, winning it and then finishing her own assist through sheer hard work.

Kelsey in the 41st minute then raced through after a lovely ball from Erin and got her name on the scoresheet.

Kinmel Bay then replied a minute later with a break from a Llandudno corner, a lovely top corner shot from Lucy Perry leaving Megan no chance.

This quickly shook Llandudno who then bagged a quick brace with Ella getting both, scoring her 4th of the game and Kelsey being her industrious self assisting both.

In the second half Ella came off for Olivia who made her adult debut as she turned 16 this week. The game in the second half was more of a battle. The quality on offer was not the same as the first half from Llandudno, however play was interspersed with various quick interplays resulting in chances and opportunities.

In the 64th minute some more lovely footwork from Megan the keeper assisted Kelsey who raced through to score her second of the day.

Megan’s footwork in finding the spare player has grown each passing week and has resulted in a few goals starting from herself.

Kinmel Bay scored another goal in the 73rd minute when a looping shot from Lexie McEvoy beat the keeper at the far post, punishing lost possession from Llandudno.

The remainder of the game was a tight affair with Kinmel Bay still fighting for every loose ball. Llandudno extended their lead with a goal from 16 year old Olivia, ably assisted again by the wonderful Kelsey and Kelsey finished the scoring in the 85th minute getting another hat-trick with a lovely ball fed through by Erin.

The game finished 9-2 to Llandudno. Kinmel Bay battled from minute 1 to 90 and did not drop their tempo at all; a great home test for Llandudno with moments of quality punishing the away side.

I felt Llandudno controlled the match leaving Kinmel Bay to 3 chances, of which they scored 2.
