SHROPSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE REPORTS – SEPTEMBER 21, 2024

DIVISION ONE

Wellington 2nd XI (3) 49-6 Chirk 1st XI (20) 146-8

While all other matches in their division were abandoned, Chirk managed to take advantage and get in a finish which delivered victory.

Put into bat by Wellington seconds, Chirk posted 146-8 off a reduced 35 overs, Nick Flack leading the way with 37, while James Carter added 35.

The hosts were set a revised target of 102 off 22 overs, but could only manage 49-6, meaning the visitors won by 52 runs and picked up 20 points.

Luke Gardner picked up 2-6 and Oliver Gough 2-22 for the North Walians, Flack and Andrew Swarbrick collecting a wicket apiece in tight spells.

Chirk 1st XI are due to host Newport of Shropshire in their final match of the season this Saturday, start 12 pm.

DIVISION SEVEN

Chirk 2nd XI (11) 206-5 Lilleshall 3rd XI (7) 46-3 – abandoned

Chirk seconds will round off what has often been an encouraging season this Saturday when they travel to Quayside 1st XI.

Last Saturday saw the North Wales club’s second team end up not as fortunate as the firsts as their home clash with Lilleshall thirds was abandoned at a time where the hosts were well placed.

Barry Wilding made 69 and skipper Dale Randall 57, Chirk setting 206-5 off 40 overs after winning the toss and deciding to bat.

The visitors were 46-3 off 13 overs when the rain spoiled hopes of a result.
